Sh!tty hopefully you didn't overheat it and blow a head gasket? Where is the leak originating from can you see?

Yes, tons of people have the timing cover leak. My 2011 has it, same as the 1GR in my 2007 Tacoma had it.

It's annoying, but I haven't seen any that leak bad enough to be worth the trouble if not under warranty, including my 2011 with over 300k miles.

Just curious. What kind of oil do you use?

Mobil One Syn when I change it. Have had the dealership do it most of the time due to specials. And Synthetic when they so it. Definitely did not run it hot before taking it in. Horrible to see it taken apart yesterday. I do not like others messing with my cars!

I have it on my 2016 since 30k miles. I live with it and clean it up from time to time. Have over 92k now.

Maybe it's a design feature as a throw back to the OG 4Runner with a 22R. The 22Rs seemed like they universally had leaks on the timing chain covers.

Hopefully it's fixed and you're back on your way soon! Oil leaks are always a PITA.

Anyone DIY the timing chain cover on the 5th gen....have the leak, purchased all the parts just trying to get some intel
