2018 TRD Off Road Premium Question

Greetings!

So, I am looking at a 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium. I noticed the vehicle has no running boards/rock sliders on it. Aren't these standard on all Off Road Premium models or am I wrong here?

Have you looked at Toyota’s website? I don’t believe they are standard. Many dealers may order them that way, but they are typically added to the price of the vehicle.

They are not standard. And, frankly, if you are going to be doing even moderate off roading, after-market sliders will be preferable.

Have a set of predator steps, ready for the trash. was tired of bashing my shin on them.

I’ll add that if you want them, buy them cheaper somewhere else and install them yourself. If you’ve got a socket set and 30 minutes, they are super easy to install.

Meltdown, will the bolt-on sliders stand up to the trails as well as weld-on options? I would much rather go with the bolt-on option but just want to make sure all my ducks are in a row here. Thanks.

Sliders bolt to the frame. Toyota provides pre-threaded holes for them. I would never weld on the frame for that would destroy any corrosion material on them.

Sorry, I some how missed the “sliders” part of your original post. My comments were strictly regarding running boards or steps. I don’t have any experience with sliders other than what I’ve read here.

Any of the bolt on steps or running boards will not take a thumping on the trail. Most if not all are aluminum and bolt to the body in 3 spots. Not sure about the factory toyota "sliders".

Even the Toyota sliders that you can get are fairly weak and don't provide much of a step. If you think you'll need protection go aftermarket rock sliders. If you just want a step you can pick up factory steps for next to nothing on FB Marketplace or something.

Sell them... the metal recyclers gave me enough to buy lunch, and you'll get much more from someone else :thumb3:

I have experience with this! I did an awesome, but obstacle-filled trail the end of April. My '18 ORP is leveled, and I went up to 31" tires, so I'm sure you can guess I banged up a few items. My Predator steps all came off... totally aluminum, light weight. I'll admit I did like the look, but not much for protection at all. I did get another set of Nfab steps (not Predators, their 3" tube) because my wife needs them and because the price was better than sliders. But bolt-on sliders are on my list.

If you want the look (and I do like the 4R's better with something than nothing there) go ahead and get steps. But off road, they're not going to hold up. Mine didn't damage the body (maybe I was lucky) but they certainly didn't withstand contact with hard, immovable objects.
