I actually came to enjoy the G-wagon. not sure I would own one, even if I could afford it. But still like most things, it has its strong points, and with the
g-wagon, its sometimes a surprise.

Anyway, I was out with my buddy riding dirt bikes the other day. And I noticed (remembered) it has a DOOR in the rear like the GX has. Only it opens from the other side, and has a swing away spare tire. Don't know why I never noticed before. Guess I just never paid too much attention to that.

My wife actually wanted me to get a G Wagen instead of the 4Runner, I just couldn't do it. the 2015 we looked at was 80k considering I paid about 36k for the NEW 4Runner I figure I could have had two. the runner is bigger inside, and just sort of easier to live with. We had been a 4 Mercedes family for quite a while and the GLE didn't really fit the bill. anyway very happy with the 4Runer. the G Wag is cool, but 80k for something to bang around with off road, go snowboarding in and make dump runs, didn't work for me. plus now when I mention things like a $5,000.00 supercharger the wife sees it as still having saved 40k :eyebrows:

Really hard to justify the extra money. And today, the sticker would be closer to $150k for the G-wagon. And the extra maint costs, although most is taken care of pretty well by Mercedes. And you DON"T want to own one after the warrantee is up!!!!!!!! But I can still appreciate it.

yeah the 15 we looked at was just back in Nov it had around 30k on it but was CPO so would have been under warranty till 2022 the new ones go between 125k and 165k depending on options, more of course for the AMG... but I already have ONE AMG, seems excessive to have two...

At least they kept it a G.. Jeep has managed to maintain the Wrangler functionality as well.. my big concern is Rover and what they're planning on doing to the Defender.

Who buys these for off-roading anyways?

People in Dubai, and rich Americans who have a taste for luxury and the outdoors... that actually know how to enjoy their money.

Its not too far off from a Land Cruiser either, which appeals to people who prefer being understated vs having the bling.

As much as I love the G Wagon, that isn't even my dream Mercedes.

Give me a Mercedes Benz Unimog and I would be one happy camper... literally with a camper conversion.

You are right rich people in UAE can afford take their million dollar yachts off-roading in the desert :D.

And you are right about Land Cruiser, but it's still cheaper than G (maintenance as well).

That is a cool rig. Would not mind one for myself :)
