Original Harlan Shakedown run

Here's a video i have finally posted of my first shakedown run at Harlan and my first run with the Atlas. Was there with #WheelinWithWillie and his '82 Scrambler

Taillight replacement

Taillights, am I the only one who breaks them? I got tired and still have two left one brand new that apparently nobody wants.

In any case no more. We have made a new piece that attaches to the existing taillight mounting holes. It will be fully welded and ground down in the next day or so and I will paint them to match the body.

We could have welded them to the body but that's far too much work for very little to zero extra gain.

Kind of like a complete part out of the stupid wiring harness, which all weighs at least 30 lb. Just for fun we're going to weigh it tomorrow. I may or may not put the stock seats back in as well. I actually listed them for sale this morning here.

My entire dash was removed and we are going to build our own aluminum dash. It will have my Holley pro dash, vintage Air AC and heat. Most likely a large GPS screen and camera monitor and who knows what else this point. Think of a full ultra-4 or trophy truck dash. It should be something much less than what Morgan Clark does and closer wide open designs fj40 build.

I sold my Atlas and have purchased a new transfer case which I will detail later and of course, I have the new engine and transmission going in. My entire stock drivetrain and engine has been sold.

May also cut some of the front tube work, and rebuild it to get the full up travel my truck is capable of.

Of course we'll be rewiring the entire truck again and it will be far more simple than the stock wiring system and multiple computers.

Installing new steering, transmission and oil coolers, and a new 32 gallon fuel tank.

I will give much more detail moving forward as we are about to start putting it all back together. The remaining parts are starting to arrive.

Sure, I could have started with Armada Engineering, Brenthel, etc, but that is well beyond even what i've spent and it's a purpose built vehicle different from what I do here on the east coast. would it work, probably but it would not be at home in SoCal bombing through the desert. I could have purchased a rock bouncer from BKOR or WOD, but I sure like my windshield and door windows on the snotty trails I typically ride.

Things are finally starting to come together. The new engine will arrive in a few days.

Seems like a bit of overkill for the east coast off roading you do, but, hey whatever!

We needed to make a little more room for everything.

Actually the LS7 is smaller than the stock motor as is the th400. We had it all in and it required no cutting of the tunnel for the trans but maybe the transfer case.

This week's update

A few photos from last week's work.

Motor mounts are fabbed up and we have the dry sump above the top of the new front frame rails.

The flex is crazy now and maybe my next set of tires will be the 46" USD's.

Rear windows are out and available. Replaced with aluminum and new things coming later this week or next.

Front a pillar bars in along with dash bar for new dash. Will add one more door bar to follow the top of the seat this week.

The trans, oil, and steering coolers should all be mounted this week.

My Howe steering pump mocked up and fits fine. My t/c pump should also be completed this week and mounted just off the ac compressor. This will run my hydro brakes.

Front motor cage should be completed this week and new adapter for the transfer case. Sometimes it sure is fun doing something others have not done yet.
