Yeah, thanks. I guess those NY winters haven't been so kind to my 4Runner. I always powerwashed the underside every spring, but it didn't seem to help very much. The salt and brine solution on the roads is just brutal.

I would be a buyer of the Voodoo Blue 2019 4Runner TRD Pro. Love the suspension update.

Given how cool the AEV JKU pickups looked, I'm guessing that a lift, some 38's, and off road armor will make for one hell of an awesome truck.

I hear you. I am not big on the 4Runner Limited model due to the 20 inch wheels and all the chrome. I really do not want to spend more money on it past the factory configuration. I do like the Limited full time configuration though. But, the on the fly 4x4 is good enough for me here.
I like having the CRAWL mode too.
I dont have issues with the safety of the JL. I drive the 4x4 pretty slow so
I will let luck play itself out with that one.
It was a little tight getting into the back of the 4 door.
I liked the locker setup and the sway bar disconnect feature.
The JL has the on the fly 4x4 system. That is good enough for me.

Yeah, in Austin, part time + stability control is plenty good.
But for me, i like full-time system + stability control for snow and bad weather. If i am going with a 4x4, then KDSS appeals greatly to me (because i don’t lift)...so, this has kept me away from the 4runner Limited model...and has pushed me to consider Lexus GX...but at the price range, for a little more, i can get the Land Cruiser...and you know, things just get out of hand financially after that!
For rear side airbags, this is huge because my wife works on every other weekends. So, i will have my 3 kids with me most of the time on the weekends. During the weekday, not a big deal because i go to work alone...but weekends, i cannot have a car without side airbags in the rear.

The Jeep Sahara 4dr (no longer a 2dr Sahara trim) has available full time 4wd as an option this year on the JL. Eagerly awaiting a redesigned 4runner myself, but will probably get a JL 2dr and purchase a new 4runner when redesign is available. Btw, my 99 4runner is still in great shape and tiding me over.

It's always fun to have strongly-held personal opinions. I stayed in several camps throughout southern Africa (Sabi Sands, Okavango, Chobe, Kalahari) and none of them ran anything other than Land Rovers. And these vehicles, loaded with guests, ran over Mopani trees and other thorny obstacles tracking animals on awkward terrain off road.
I hope that someday, Magnus has the opportunity to visit Moab. It really is a beautiful place and should be on everyone's bucket list.

I'm still holding out hope that Toyota will unveil new TNGA-F engines with the new 4R. They have to get with the turbocharging game, right? (they won't)
Look at the new 2.0 turbo in the '19 Cherokee. 295 lb/ft. I have not seen torque curves for it yet, but given it's a DIT twin scroll I'd assume all of that torque is available below 2k RPM. Most brands are starting to unveil 4 cylinder engines with superior output to the 4.0L in the current truck.
A version of Toyota's 3L DIT V6 in the next 4R would be amazing... but I'm preparing my (not) shocked face when they unveil the next model with a Camry engine.
I will happily eat my words if I'm wrong as I rush in to trade up for the new truck though.

How is it behind the curve? It's just about the only one in it's class, a midsize body on frame SUV. If I am not mistaken there is only one other and that is the Wrangler. I might be wrong but there is not a lot of competition. Probably one of the reasons it set sales records for the 5th gen last year. And the GX has those options because it's sold from the luxury division and costs more. This is Toyota 101
My guess is no, but it's worth getting a SR5 or off road for thousands cheaper and then getting a real suspension aftermarket.

Does the GX have those options? I thought the GX and 4R were about the only 2 Toyota products in the US to no have TSS-P.

It is available, but SPECIAL ORDER only. Basically, you won’t find it anywhere on the dealer’s lot...but it is possible for a low cost of $4340!
EDIT: actually, i see a few on dealer lots around me WITH this special package. MSRP $69k.
