Anyways the two main reasons why moonroofs fail is clogged drain hoses and/or bad connections to these drain hoses, the failing connection isn’t a problem for a while since it would be covered by warranty and a little bit of care here and there prevents the clogging!

Just in case you toke it the wrong way, I’m happy that there is options and I’m even more happy that we all have different preferences!
What I was trying to say was that it doesn’t need to leak and that those who choose a moonroof maybe got an idea what to looking for

Among my countless faults is that even though mine did (due to clogged drain hoses—and mind you, my roof is rarely opened), I still don’t know what I should have been doing to prevent such a thing.

Moonroof drain hose blowouts on a regular interval?

Toyota likes the $630 profit center that the moonroof is. Fair enough. But it seems that every ORP coming off the line is equipped with the option.

Throw us torso-tall guys a bone, Toyota.

You’re surely right, I think it’s ridiculous that they decide what the customer “want”. They should pre-produce a bigger variety or produce it to customers order. I love the idea how Mercedes did it back in the old days where the car was absolutely basic and you decide exactly what get added, I mean piece by piece not that package bs, after you created they build it in exactly that way!
Unfortunately that doesn’t work when it comes to profit maximizing so we end up with packages like SR5, limited, OR, ORP... and the small amount of single extras that we can choose get chosen by market analysts.

But you’re wrong when it comes to preventing leaks on a moonroof. I had several cars in the past equipped with a moonroof, all uncovered parked outside, under trees etc. - non of the leaked!
Important is once a year a visual check, when the channels already got some grime than blow the drain spots and rinse afterwards with warm soap water. When the vehicle hits the 10years than check your drain hose connectors, it’s usually just a rubber hose and by then it lost already the softeners, depending on condition add a hoseclamp.

Fair enough. Moonroof’s a good thing because it’s one more thing we can perform maintenance on. And we can never have too many of those.

Not a dumb question at all.

Also try not and leave the sunroof open while parked under trees or anything that may start to collect up there and wash down.
I mostly keep mine closed. I just like the extra light brought in myself.

So I just installed the garnish and grille on my 2020 ORP yesterday, and am wondering if I correctly installed the garnish or not. Is the bottom of the garnish supposed to be flush with the lower grille, or is it expected that there's a slight 1mm gap between the garnish and the lower grille? The garnish itself is centered left and right, but I can't help but think the adhesive stuck too fast to get it flush across the vertical axis.

Other owners who have installed this ( [MENTION=305706]TRDORP4Runner[/MENTION] ) or already have a pro, do you guys also have a very small gap on the underside of your garnish, or is it flush? As I'm writing this I'm also wondering if I got the top part of the garnish deep enough...

Has anyone tried to remove and reapply the garnish before, or is that a no-go SOL situation?

What is a good way to tell that I installed it properly?

I have a small gap on the underside, for the top I had to lift a little and push it to get the last 1/16 or so to move.

Finally picked this up and absolutely love this color! Drove it from Vancouver to Seattle to visit a friend before I drove it back to California but got a lot of head turns on the freeway today. Going to enjoy the rig as stock for awhile as I am in no hurry to upgrade the parts. Only upgrade that is necessary is to convert lights to LED other than that, TRDORP is nice as is. A lot of people are hyped up about the army green pro but the red ORP is such a classic look.
