Agreed. In the realm of $50k+, it really needs to be packing 300+hp, 8AT, nicer interior, etc.
This is such a basic vehicle, and while that is what many of us like about it, it's a little hard to justify above $45-48k IMO.

2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start
The TSS stuff is coming across the lineup, so there doesn’t have to be a big price jump. This is essentially a refresh of the lineup rather than adding pro exclusive features like 2019 did. Though, TRD exhaust is a new pro standard feature. Probably $1000-$1800 cost up like mentioned above. The price jump from $43k to $47k on the MY19 is honestly hard to make sense of. I understand that the roof rack and moonroof added some cost, but $4k seems like a lot.

It was not only the roof rack and the moonroof but also Fox shocks/suspension which might cost more than the Bilstein ones used in previous model years.
But I agree that it was certainly not 4K more.
It's too bad they don't still make them with manual windows, manual locks, drum brakes instead of these fancy disc brakes with ABS systems, no airbags, and all that other newfangled jazz. All of these modern niceties are just more things that can break! I vote we go back to the days of the Model T when cars were simple and had less things that can go wrong. Technology is a hoax!

The moonroof was already in the Canadian Pro, so that's not valid. The roof rack and suspension are add-on's at the port, so that cost can be justified...sort of, but not $4k. My opinion only, but unless there's retooling or something, manufacturers are just trying to squeeze out every dollar for an existing platform. This one, however, is so old, it's more of what are we willing to pay, not what it's worth. Japanese bike manufacturers do this all the time, sometimes using an engine that's 12 years old, in a spruced up model. Tried and true, but not exciting. Sorry, a bit of a rant.

I have a dealer through a friend that will guarantee me a 2020 TRD Pro in army green at retail price. He is getting 2-3 of them. He told my friend the other 2 will be listed at 10k over sticker. I would never pay over, nor do i agree with it, but some dealers are getting it. Back on the 2017 cement mid year there was one dealer that sold at msrp in Chicago area. I have time to make a decision and dont have to put anything down..I am a bit hesitant that the value may go down once the redesign comes out in a few years, or perhaps they will still be like used pros are now..thoughts? btw i have a really nice 3rd gen now so that has been helping the long wait for a re-designed model. Thanks

Nobody knows the answer to this.
It will either
1.) have little effect
2.) make it retain value longer
3.) make it lose value more quickly
More than likely #3 could still leave a limited production rare color vehicle far better off than most cars depreciate

Doesn’t matter. Any residual value advantage that a PRO has over any other trim level is offset by the fact that you have to pay MSRP or better. I got over $4K off sticker on my last two 4runners. Taking that into account, you don’t make out any better on resale with a PRO vs any other trim level.

well this depends on what you mean by better on resale because you can make out better if you have a pro. Some people dont like buying brand new or can't afford brand new so they wait a few years and get what they really wanted. Saving 4k off sticker doesn't really help in long run or resale over a pro either. When you go to trade in for a new vehicle the pro will get more because dealers know they never got discounted like others 4runners. No matter what model you get they hold value but when a vehicle is highly discounted you save at first but not long run. I didn't pay msrp for my pro i actually got it $1600 under msrp

I say just buy what you really want. i dont think the new one will make the older model drop in price because of a body change. never know they might put in the tranny from the tacoma which people dont seem to like and drive the price or value of the old better then new. Never really want the first year model anyways. so Lets so you bought the 2020 and in 3 years new body comes out you love it well wait a year you had your 2020 4 years and trade that in. long run life is short you can afford it buy what you want and dont worry about those little things.

Does anyone have an idea what to expect from the TRD Premium. I dont want the Pro because I plan to upgrade. I would like to know which features (push button start/bigger screen/etc) will make it the premium line...

Not yet - no other changes announced for anything other than the TRD Pro, and even those were a little sketchy about trims/features.
Another thing I've been thinking about: On one hand, there seems to be little reason to upgrade to a 2020 unless you are a techy, but... I tend to be a refresh buyer, meaning I usually buy Toyota/Lexus products after they've been refreshed in their lifecycle.
If the next gen isn't going to land until 2021 as a 2022 MY, or even 2022 as a 2023 MY, that would put a refresh out to 2025 or later. At that point, my 2016 would be nearly a decade old. I know a 4Runner will last well beyond that, but I might think about getting a 2020/2021 just because it'll get me further into the 6th gen's life.
I never buy the first year of a new model, and then if you're going to buy the second year, I'm the type of person who would rather hold out for the third year refresh... so...
... I'm just ready for Toyota to release more info about the tech changes and trims. Plus some images of the new dash and tach.

It sure is purty. Gonna have to test drive one...
So it appears with the headunit that they ditched the CD player and updated the buttons while leaving the rest of the dash the same. Hoping for the same with the 4R.
