2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start

I'm halfway there with you on this statement. The only thing making me want to trade in my 16 SR5 was the following:

- upgraded instrument cluster with more info
- Carplay head unit
- Upgraded safety features
- Updated Transmission (the 4.0 V6 is fine)

Looking at what I saw in that video from TFL today, the new cluster center screen looks great, but the rest of it looks cheap compared to the current 14-19 cluster IMHO.

On the safety features, I want the full safety suite available to every current Toyota besides the 4Runner, which is the 2.0 with BSM, etc. The GX460 and the 4Runner share so much, so I don't get why the 20' 4Runner can't have BSM, RCTA, etc. The GX has had that since 2014.

The only attractive thing was the new head unit features, and frankly I'll just wait to pick one of those up second hand for much less than it will cost me to trade up/in.

I get Toyota's philosophy is incremental improvement and tried and true technology, but they need to stop "phoning it in" and "show up to the table" on their BOF vehicles. We will see if that happens on the TNGA-BOF updates further down the line.

The basic safety sense is pretty worthless other than cruise control radar. It lacks the useful features of modern safety systems like lane keep and collision avoidance. Its probably not what you're thinking it is. No steering input means all it can do is apply brakes or make noise.

Good point, I do that too. I also love flexing the back window down when another SUV or Jeep is behind me. Feels good.

Totally agree here. If the 2020 had an 8 or 10 speed transmission, I'd seriously consider it. With a v8 and 8at I'd be putting in an order. The update is not anywhere close to being worth upgrading from my 15.

Honestly I wish they would offer the current 4.0L V6 with the 6 or 8 sp AT and 4.10 or 4.30 gears.

Can't wait for all these same people crying for electronic upgrades to be whining about these same things failing in a few years and being pissed at Toyota because their supposedly bulletproof 4runner has electrical issues.

I'm glad you're happy with what you have, but the fact that you wish failure upon those who feel differently about your fear for tech upgrades in this vehicle is juvenile.

You do realize that the 5th gen has always been filled with the brim with computers and electronics right?

Is it only whining when people want progress in a different direction than you want? Because to me it sounds like you're whining about people who you accuse of whining.

If I wanted a unibody luxury vehicle a Toyota would probably be the last one I'd pick. There are way better options out there than a Highlander. However, the 4Runner is unparalleled in the BOF SUV segment.

There's always a horse and buggy or maybe your own two feet waiting for you if you're so against the future. I hear those don't have any electronics, which means they have to be more reliable, right? Why post here if you're just gonna call everyone out for being excited for new things, and for not agreeing with you? You can choose to believe what you want, and there are 5 generations of 4Runners for you to choose from, as has been stated earlier.

Obviously I haven't tested it with a 2020, but I'm going to say 99% for sure that the accessory meter won't work. I've had a few people ask me that. Completely new instrument cluster therefore new software and probably new wiring.

The current cluster (14-19) is made by Yazaki, whereas the new style clusters found in the Tacoma, Tundra, and 20' 4Runner I'm pretty sure are made in house by Denso.

No limited models for that display yet?

I don’t think so... skid plate looks like the non KDSS type... they’re only trying to upsell the Fox shocks.

At 2:02 in the TFL video they show the front suspension and there is no KDSS. That would have been pretty cool though.

It's probably because this is still not the production vehicle you'll see when they roll off the line. It might be close, but the truck we saw was not a line vehicle. It may still get some tweaks and stuff. I've been through this in other industries, and it's common practice. For instance, I was curious why they didn't mention the ext. lighting. Anyway, more to come I'm sure.

Yeah, but I think it's unfortunately wishful thinking, much like my pipedreams about KDSS on the Pro. Exterior lighting might not have mentioned but unless Toyota is trying to drop the biggest surprise press release of a lifetime with features previously not mentioned during the Chicago Autoshow along with what we saw in this video, I don't foresee anything like LED lights, as much as I would kill to have them from the factory. If they do surprise us, I can see a spike in sales for this model year.
