2021 Head Unit Replacement

Just bought a 21 SR5 Premium XP. I was excited to start ordering a replacement head unit. I have had my eye on the Alpine or Pioneer floating display units. I have watched several videos of the installation in prior year models. I went to Crutchfield to look at install kits, harnesses, etc. and they have nothing listed. Metra doesnt have anything either.

Does anyone have any info on whether previous year install kits and harnesses will fit?

Following up. Anyone have any info?

I just installed a Kenwood in my 2020 Off Road Premium and found the same thing. I used the Metra kit which was ok. I have the Schosche kit as well and just need the time to paint it. In my opinion the Schosche is going to be a better fit but only comes in silver. The Metro kit matches perfectly but doesn't mount as well.

They do fit, but are not listed. I also used the Maestro Idata link and it worked perfectly. It is confusing because when you compare the factory harness to the Maestro RT03 the factory harness has more plugs.

The Maestro didn't use them all which was confusing but it does work.

I wanted to change the head unit on our 2021 ORP and could not find any wiring that matched up, so I kept the head unit went with an AMP and DSP as I am very electronic/tech challenged. :tape:

Yes that’s what I am finding. There is absolutely nothing listed for a 21. Which scares me a little bit. Was there anything different between a 20 and a 21? I know they look similar was there anything functionally different between the head Units for each year? I guess my concern would be the wiring harnesses. The fact that there is nothing listed makes me think that the 21 is different. If it was the same I’m sure Metra and Scosche would have one listed.

Ultimately I guess I wouldn’t mind doing a factory audio interface as I know there are many really good ones out there. I have access to audio control and JL audio equipment. I will be using a DSC either way. I wanted a new unit for the performance, update ability, clean 4v+ outputs, etc.

I went with the tacotunes plug and play harness which uses the factory speaker wires. While changing my speakers and looking at the truck the thought of running new speaker wire looks like a real pain.

Went with an Audio Control DSP-610 and a cheap AMP. Waiting on my harness still to put it all together.

Much rather had a new head unit but maybe in a few years once products start coming out for the newer 4runners.

have you confirmed the harness is different between 2020 and 2021 models? or are you just basing this off of the fact no one has a harness out yet? Im just trying to get a definitive answer on whether or not the stock head units and harnesses are or are not the same.

Had no choice but to try it, worse case is send it back and chop wiring.
Same with my shock/springs...even Bilstein would not confirm fitment......if they ever show up Ill see. :baby:

I can tell you that the Alpine Halo unit is not plug n play for 2020, just went through that and unfortunately returned the unit, I’m sure you’ll run into the same on a 21
