2021 rearview mirror - looks like screen in the center

Hey all,

I recently got a '21 SR5 Premium and with the cold weather and a little fogginess on the mirror I noticed that in the center of the rear view it looks like there's a screen or something back there. Reminds me of the built in backup camera or built-in compass from other companies. When the right angle hits it when it's foggy that center part is clear as day and says S2 in the center and looks like it has hash marks going out from each side of the S2. I thought maybe it was a compass, but confirmed this morning it always just says S2. I couldn't get a proper picture since it only ever becomes visible when I'm driving.. the sun is never where I need it when I'm on a dead street or at home.

Any ideas what this is? I don't see anything that allows me to use whatever this is.

I've noticed it on my 2020 as well. My guess is that maybe that's where the light sensor is for the auto dimming feature? Dimming mirrors usually have a sensor in the front and back. When the front of the mirror is dark (like at night) and the back is detecting a lot of light (like bright lights behind you) they dim. Dunno, could be something else too.

I think the sensor for the auto-dim is the small white box to the right of the button.
It reminds me of this:

It reminds me of that as well (I had one on my 2011 Tacoma) but I've always seen them on the left side of the mirror. This box you mention is right in the middle, where I've never seen a screen located before.

I believe it's related to the auto-dimming and how the mirror redistributes the light/glare
