225/70/15 to 265/75/16

quick question for the board. i have been a long time reader, but haven't yet posted. i tried searching but didn't come up with anything, hence my first post. forgive me if this has already been discussed.

i have a 2000 SR5 4Runner 3.4V6 4x4. the sticker on the door panel says that my correct tire size is 225/70/15, but when i bought the truck it had 265/70/16 deuler h/ts - which is what i thought were standard on the 3rd gen 4Runners. i recently bumped up the tires to destination a/ts 265/75/16.

my question is, does anyone know what my gear ratio likely is? i thought 4:10 was standard. and if indeed my truck did come factory with 225/70/15s, how big of a problem is it that i bumped up to 265/75/16s? do i HAVE to regear up to 4:33 or even 4:56 to not cause permanent damage to the tranny?

any help the board can provide would be much, much appreciated.

265/70/16 is correct size for any 4x4 Im pretty sure

only tires I know of that were that small were on base model 2wd trucks.. even sr5 and limited 2wds have 265 tires

as far as regearing you should have either 3.90s or 4.10s.

you wont need to regear with 3.90s inless you goto 33s.

regearing a 4.10 would probablly be best on 35s

you can take your truck to the dealer and they will look at the sticker inside your door jamb and be able to tell you your diff ratio.

i have an 02 SR5 4wd, came with 265/70/16's and 4.10 gears

i now have 285/75/16 and need to change my ratio to 4.56 or 4.88's

you wont destroy your tranny if you dont regear... you will lose MPG and some off the line pick up, but dont go spending the 600$ for new gears unless your going to a much larger tire (33" or larger)

awesome. thanks so much for the help guys. i appreciate it. from the sounds of it, i think i'll be good to go. the sticker on the door jam must be wrong. if that's the only wrong with my toyota, i'll take it!

next up is removing the running boards, a new h/u and speakers and some HIDs.
