22r/e timing cover. sleeve or replace?

I see several sleeving kits for the 22re timing cover, for cases when the chain has worn through the cover into the water pump cavity. Does anyone have experience with any of the different sleeving kits, and recommend one versus the other, or is this a better safe then sorry situation where i go yard crawling for a new cover? Thanks.

You can get an entire front end rebuild kit for about $120-$150 on ebay from engnbldr. Replace the chain, guides, oil pump, water pump and chain cover with it. It worked great for me...

Fix it right, and you'll only fix it once.

Actually its an 84, so i would need the 83-84 timing cover. Thing is, guy just had the chain done, but whoever did it just completely left off the driver side guide:bash:

Wow, I hope he didn't pay shop rates for that kind of timing install! I have never heard of a sleeve that will fix the chain rub on a timing cover, I have seen some covers that were welded as fix though.

Doh! yeah i was looking at the timing cover on rockauto and noticed they had two sleeving kits for it. Unfortunately my welding is limited to arc (and thus no aluminum) so i guess its new timing cover time. thanks.

In that case I would reccomend the same as Dingman, you can't beat the price, quality and customer service that engnbldr provides. You don't have to get an entire kit if you don't need it, he also sells the covers by themselves.
