22R motor swaps

A little help folks I do not have much experience with these yotas, need a little advise

I have a 4 runner, 87 model, fuel injected with a dead motor. I have located another motor out of a 85 carborated motor.

what are the differences? will the trans be a direct bolt up to this replacement motor or will there be problems? any mods required? how about any ignition issues?

the tranny should bolt up.
as far as the EFI vs. Carb thing i dont really know. im in the middle of pulling out my 22rte in my 87 p/u and its got a ton of wiring that is a pain in my ass. so if you did you would have to decide to keep it carborated or put all your EFI stuff on.

It will bolt right in, and since the carbed motor is an 85 you can swap the EFI stuff over. The carbed block may have to be drilled and tapped for the knock sensor.

Depending where you live, like me I am out in SMOG restriction territory. You are going to want to keep that EFI. Two reasons, if you need any work done on your carb no one will touch it, and the new replacement carb you get say from Warner or who ever is making them now days rarely pass emissions.

not totally sure, as yota did change deck height and a few other things with the 22Rs at one year (cant remeber) so be sure to check LCE as they know what changed and when. just swap over your EFI stuff, and you will be tearing it up. yes tranny would be a bolt up. doesnt metter if its the W56 or G82 or the supra W58 its all the same man. good luck and keep us posted. oh and the specs for the engines is in LC Engineerings catalog. last few pages i think. not too sure. it you need accessories for the swap or whatnot, they are a gold mine for efficacy parts. good luck,,

Thanks for the input. I went to check this motor out this past wkend, ended up being a 20R. The dude thought it was a 22, bummer!! I knew it was too good to be true. Guess I will still look around but have not had any luck yet. Always do a rebuild.
