Would a 252 cam go good with a stock 22re head or would I need to put better valves and springs in it

If you're going to put a cam in your motor, then it would be a great time to do the head anyways. You can get a bad @$$ Street RV head from engnbldg.com for about $450. It's well worth it and has a lot more flow than the stock head. I put one in my motor along with a 268 cam and I'm loving it. I have 35" tires on stock 4.10 gears, with my motor I can still drive around traffic and on the freeway and not feel totally underpowered. The 22re is still a gutless engine but with a few little power adding goodies you'll be much happier!

I was told anything above 252 cam it would mess with the ecm. I was going to buy a new head and was thinking engbldr

I'm running a 268 with the stock ecu and no problems... The ecu doesn't know any difference. All it does is keep the intake and exhaust ports open just a tad bit longer, and I think it opens the intake a tad bit sooner... but not 100% sure. Call ted at engnbldr, he'll tell you all about it and it's worth every penny!
