22re hard start bad idle and pore top end torque

I have a 22re 4runner that has been giving me some issues. It takes a lot I cranking to get started sometime With a puff of fuel vapor from the tail pipe when it finally catches. When it finally starts it idles rough but clears up with throttle. It runs great below 3k but north of that it starts loosing a lot if power. I have new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel filter and air filter as part of the tune up I did when I bought the truck. I did a starter fluid test for vacuum leaks and cleaned the throttle body and maf. Any ideas on what to check would be great.

Did a fuel pressure check and I am siting at 38 psi on idle and it goes up as rpm increases and goes up to 42 when I shut it off. Is this normal for efi I normally work on carbed engine

Changed my pcv valve and I no longer blow a epic cloud of smoke on start just a small poof of black and a little blue (possibly a bad valve). Might explain hard start and the puff of unburnt fuel.

Yup, that's right about where it ought to be.

If the plugs and wires are all new, maybe check for vacuum leaks, run a compression test? That's what I can think of off the top of my head anyway.

The engine was swapped in by a shop in read feather about 30k ago with good compression. It has had a fluctuating idle for a while now, yesterday I realized that it is only when I am on the breaks most of the smoke went away with a new pcv valve. I am now thinking a leaking break booster

So I tested the break booster and it is fine I found a couple of vacuum leeks but nothing big but the idle cleaned up a lot but the truck is still running rich. We have had a few mornings below freezing here now and the weird thing is it turns right over then but not above about 40F.

So last week I pulled over when the slight miss I have always had suddenly got so bad that I couldn't even do 55. When checking the plug wires I found my miss as I watched the ark jump from a wire to my hand, anyway as I crawled under my still running truck to get my flashlight I hear a disturbing rattle. My cat sounds like silverware in a garbage disposal. I got my truck home and parked it I think I will be stoping the exhaust at the manifold an see if it helps if I dose I will be citing out my cat and flaring the pipe so I can bolt in a aftermarket one

So I unbolted my exhaust at the manifold and it runs great now. I wish who ever built the exhaust had used a bolt in cat but now I need to cut it out because they welded the whole thing together

So it is back to running bad still hard start no check engine light and the smell of gas is gone and no more black smoke in the exhaust
