22re help

I need some help with my 1991 t4r 22re (218,500miles). I have had some random starting issues. I key the 4runner on and it cranks over but it does not fire. Ill try this a few times with no luck. I have a newer battery that has good charge. I can key it on and push in the flapper on the air intake and hear my fuel pump running.

So I have stumbled on getting my runner to start up once I unplug the fuel pump harness (under the rear seat),i key it on, it starts up. I have to run back to the plug and re-plug it in so it stays running. After that I can turn it off and start up just fine.

If any one could help I would appreciate it!

Cold start injector? My guess. Don't know though.

My guess is a cranky fuel pump, but you've some isolating to do before anybody can say for sure.

Next time you get a no-start, crack the fuel line on the engine side of the fuel filter, see if you've got pressure there. Work forwards or backwards depending.

check the vacuum line running from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake plenum. it should be liquid free. if it's full of fuel, the diaphragm in the pressure regulator failed, and is causing a very rich condition, which leads to hard starts, warm or cold.
