22RE long vs. short block

Whats the difference between the 2RE long and short blocks? Is a long block just simply a more completed motor, ei: water pump, timing chain, head, ect. added? Or is it in size like with Chevy Big and Small blocks?

A long block is what you have in your truck. A short block is an engine minus the head, can be a good deal if you have a newer head in good shape.

Unless you are talking about deck height, usually we call them short or tall blocks in relation to deck height. 22Rs from 1984 and earlier have different dimensions than 1985 and up.

A short block is just the block with all it's internals installed (crank, bearings, rods, pistons and rings, etc). You supply new or reuse everything else from your old engine, head(s), intake + exhaust manifolds, cam/valves/lifter/etc, timing belt/chain, oil pump, water pump, oil pan, etc.

A long block adds the head(s), cam/valves/lifter/etc, timing belt/chain, oil pump.
You add your old manifolds, water pump, carb or EFI setup, oil pan, etc.
