22RE Valve Cover Leak

I'm picking my first runner on Monday; a 1988 with a 22RE. I checked it out and drove it, and everything looked good. I did notice that there was a lot of accumulated oil leakage coming out from where the valve cover meets the head. Is this pretty common for these engines?

I figure I'll just clean it up and replace the gasket, done deal.

It's pretty common for the cam shaft seals to weep. It's also not unheard of for guys to overtighten the valve cover bolts, or leave them too loose.

If you're sure it's coming from the valve cover, I wouldn't call it a deal breaker at all. Worst case you'll need a valve cover.

I would say that a good majority of older vehicles have valve cover gasket leaks. Almost everything but the newest ones do...

I'm pretty sure it is coming from the valve cover. I'll find out soon enough. Thanks.
