Hi all, Wow, glad I found this site, its awesome, so much info!
I am at a dilemma as to if i should sell her at this point or not. My heart keeps saying or not, as I LOVE my 4Runner.
we have a ton of memories with this truck. But I need to know i have a reliable vehicle. When she was young, we took her on a cross country trip from Jersey out to Sturgis SD. We've also had fun with her on the power lines in Cape Cod, as well as the sandpits in town...
As you can see from the title, my truck is a 95 SR5 V6, stick, with over 232,000 on her, I believe on original clutch. Shes a becoming a bit of a rust bucket around runningboards as well as rear fenders, and the typical rusted out bumpers that would need to be replaced before passing inspection. Battery terminals get all sorts of corroded usually when it rains, and then she won't start. :cursin: I have to take the terminals off and clean them with that lil brush, or sometimes just wiggle the terminals on the battery with my trusty pliers. She leaks oil as much as our old Harley does, and goes through bottles of pwr steering fluid.:beer: My rear turn signal works intermittently, which can be dangerous. Sometimes the pwr door locks don't work, sometimes they do. Check engine light comes on randomly, I just read about checking the codes myself, and will have to do that. I'll be driving :driving: on the interstate on my ride home from work, and about 10 miles into the (19 mile) ride, the light will come on. When i get off the interstate and sit waiting at the light, I can sometimes smell exhaust. (even when rear window is up) She's got a new idler arm, shocks, tires. She's gonna need new brakes soon, as well as that bumper. When I turn her around in the driveway (have to back up a Lil hill) and the front end has pressure on it, it goes Ker~Clunk ,which worries me but my DH says thats typical on the older Toyota's. At about 60 mph, she shakes a bit but i believe she needs the tires rotated or balanced...
I was gonna sell her and take DH's 98 S-10, who only has 100k. But then he decided his new Sierra is too nice to use as a work truck and hes gonna use the s-10 for that.
So... Do I keep my beloved 4runner, shell out the bucks to fix her and hope she keeps on going for at least another 100k or do I sell her to the guy that wants to give us $1500? I just don't want to put out the $ to have her pass inspection and have her die shortly thereafter. Whats the life expectancy?
(we were going to get a 2000 4runner with 190K to replace her, but now MIL is giving that to DH's sister when she gets her license.)
