235/85 vs 265/75

I'm getting new tires to put on my new LC rims and was wondering what was the general consensus on these two sizes of tires. I live where the winters are long and the roads get snow packed. Just wondering what you guys think. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have not had any personal experiance with a 235 tire, but if you are looking to put them on those 8" wide LC wheels you just got, I would stick with the 265 (had revo's in a 265 for 7-8 chicago winters and they never failed). I just think a 235 tire is a little to skinny for those wheels. I know people have used it before, but i like the look of a wider tire. If any a 255 would be the skinniest tire i would run on an 8" wheel.

I've heard good things about the revos. I was going to try the new Hankook RF AT 10. I can get them at cost. 50k milage too. I love the look of all the big lugged MT tires just cant justify them on my vehicle.....Man I must be getting old haha

I had 235/85/16s on my Tacoma and loved them. My current 4runner has 265/75/16s that were on it when I bought it (BFG AT KOs.) They're nice tires but a bit too wide for my liking. Most likely when they wear out I'll switch back to 235/85/16s.

The 235's did great in the snow (mine were Yokohama Geolander AT-S.) They did very will in the rocks of CO and UT as well.

Of course I'm using the stock 16x7 wheels so I'm not worried about going to too skinny of a tire, if you have 8" wheels you should probably stay with a wider tire.

That's what I was thinking too about the rims being wide. I talked to my tire guy and he said they'd work on that rim but I'd have a little more rock rash on the rims when we hit the trails in the Black Hills. Maybe I'll mount em up on the LC wheels and see what they look like. If they are too small I'll put em back on the stock wheels. I've only heard good things about the 235 in the snow and rocks.

I bookmarked these a while ago as I was contemplating what size tire I would use, I looked hard at that Hankook too, that's a nice tire IMHO. It looks like a great iteration of the well-liked Terra-Grappler. IIRC the siping is cut all the way too.

I was seriously considering 235/80's. I am happy with my choice but if snow was more of factor for me I would have done the 235/80/17.

Well I as much as hate to go with the flow, I think im going with the 265/75 because the availability. The 235's are 4 weeks out and unfortunately I can't wait that long. I'm getting them at dealer cost because I'm going to be the ginnea pig. I'll try anything once i guess. ha
