255/75/17's and FJ Wheels, the perfect pair?

Tried a few different tire/wheel sets before settling with this combo. Started with 265/70 KO2's on the stock limited wheels, which were a little floaty at high speeds. Switched to 255's and the truck felt tipsy around corners.

With the FJ's wheels kicking out an extra inch, it really settled the truck down. It's a much smoother ride, steady around corners, and i love how they look. Jury is still out on off-roading, but for road manners this is a great combo.

This is exactly the tire/size I was looking into. Mainly because they are the OEM for a Rubicon I believe, so takeoffs can be found. MAybe I will look into getting some 1" spacers...

was installing aftermarket UCAs with the 255/75/17s on 5th gen SR5 wheels.

I love my set of FJ wheels, would agree the lower offset makes it feel more stable and planted. I ended up painting the spokes on mine, but it they look great either way.

As far as off-road, I did some light damage the only time I took it off-road since installing. The design places the spokes out more where they can be damaged.

The original plan was to get a 265/75-16, which would have been the same as your 265/70 on 17s...

I JUST bought new rims and tires, and decided on 255/75-17s as well... just so happens I got the exact same FJ wheels too.

Im a bit surprised the 255 isn't more popular around here, the Expedition Portal guys seems to gravitate to that size more than the wider/fatter tires. Cant wait to take em off-road

I haven't really drove on them yet so the verdict isn't out yet.

You say an inch wider? Based on my measurements, those rims backspacing only increased my track 0.31" per side... but it is a wider rim than my stock 16" SR5 as well. How does it compare to to the 17" Limited rim?

Nothing really special about FJ wheels...

You can buy new, but if I was going that route I would just buy TRD wheels or another aftermarket brand in the exact size and offset I wanted... That way you can increase the track the exact amount you want without needing spacers.

I bought my FJ rims used to save a buck. Craigslist, this forum, other forums, plenty of places to look for them. I am looking for 2 more, so I can have some spares sitting around that are ready to roll.

They call this a high class problem...

I really, really wanted to get 255/75R17, but it wasn't offered in the tire model I got. My Falkens were only $130/each and looked really good on paper (and they have performed really well, we'll see how they wear)

I was looking at the Duratracs or Coopers, but those were both $100+ more for a set of five

Could be all in my head, but it's a lot more "snug" around corners. And you're right, I think it's less than an inch but it sits a lot better now.

Those are nice wheels, but I am partial to my tundra/sequoia wheels . Either way it's nice to push the track width out a little wider! Currently running the 255/80r17 km2. Along with studded 265/75r16 winter tires on the original sr5 wheels.

I just installed 265/70/17 and there rubbing slightly when the wheel is fully pinned. I get a 2.5 lift installed Wednesday hopefully that cures the issue.

You should be good to go after the lift...

a 255/75-17 is only 1/2 inch taller and I clear that just fine, with no rubbing at full lock with a 2" lift.
