I think so, when you push them out too far they tend to start contacting things. I am going to be switching to another FJ wheel shortly that will push them out a little bit more but I am not expecting any problems.

I have 255/80/17's.
Front:Toytec springs on Bilstein 5100's (set at .85"), 1/2" Toytec top plate spacer, and LR UCAs.
Rear: Icon 2" springs, Fox 2.0 piggybacks
1.25" bodylift
I'm sitting level with roughly 4.5" lift in the front and 3.25" in the rear.
The tires will clear, but be prepared to stuff... A LOT! Plus don't be afraid to trim your bumpers and possibly do a bodymount chop

I disagree, I fit my 255/80/17 spare under the frame.
Tomorrow I'm having the ST Maxx 255/80/17's installed on my stock wheels. Current lift is giving me 2.75" front 3" rear, should I be ok with just some minor trimming and mud flap removal?
I also have 1.25" wheel spacers not yet installed, just don't know if that would increase rubbing too much. Thanks

From what I've gotten from these replies is that trimming will be needed but still not sure how much. ARK_SWAMP_RIDER has a good suspension thread that says removal of mudflaps and minor trimming should be fine. Please post some pictures on here after they're installed, as these are the tires I'm wanting!!!

Since you are thinking Cooper S/T Maxx... I'm running 235/85/16s on mine They're a 32 inch tire, just 8/10th of an inch shorter than the size you are looking at. I have no issues at all with rubbing and the spare will fit under the rig. I'm very happy with them so far (about 6000 miles). I've got the 5100s all round with the front at 2.5 and the rear with 2" Toytec superflex coils and stock wheels.

I'm running 255/85R16 Cooper ST MAXXs on my 2009 trail edition. Ive got OME 884s up front with a 1" spacer and toytech superflex (+2") in the rear - it's an awesome setup. I've removed the flaps and done zero trimming - at this point it only rubs at steep turn angles while moving backwards.
I don't have any good pics, but this will show you how it sits. Ignore the tape on the door... I was experimenting with plastidip.

I don't remember, off the top of my head. My spare tire is supposed to be here soon, so I'll try to remember to measure & write it down when I mount it.
The 2009 TE is an oddball, so there isn't a lot of info out there, but I can tell you that the outside of the tire sits inside of the fender flares by a decent amount. Sorry I can't provide more detail right now, but I'll try to follow up soon.

Got the ST Maxx 255/80/17's mounted over the weekend.
Before spacers, on stock wheels, with only 2.75" front/3" rear lift, and no changes to mud flaps or liner, was surprisingly getting almost no rubbing during normal driving. Tiny rub when fully turned, in reverse, and hitting bumps, or braking hard.
After 1.25" spacers, BAD rubbing. Removed mud flaps and moved liners in an inch or two. Now I can only get them to rub at full turn when braking and going over bumps, and only rubbing on the front/bumper side of the tire, so almost not rubbing at all.
Offroading i'm sure rubbing would be more noticeable, but I'd imagine that just a little more manipulation of the liners forward would take care of any rubbing. The rear (mud flap side) of the wheel well seems fine as it is.
I'll post some pictures as soon as I can get some soap and water on my truck, It looks matte grey with all the salt on it.

i have ome 885 up front, and toytec superflex in the rear. 255/80r17 km2's on fj wheels. I removed the front mud flaps, and haven't done any trimming yet. i have very little rub at full lock in the front. Rubs the rear mud flaps when fully flexed.
