255/85-16 ??? anyone running them

Hey guys,

Just got on the forum but ive read the FAQ's and the build threads and stuff there is some really great information on here about 4runners. Im fixing to lift my 97 4runner and put tires on it, on TireRack km2's in 285/75-16 are quit $$$$ but they make them in a sizzzze 255/85-16 are way cheaper any one run them or have a picture of their rig with them on? i just want to know if they are too narrow or look goofy. Thanks

Here yah go. They are pretty narrow... I'd like to try to run 295/75/16 next, but it may rub too much...285s are a tad bit smaller but the width is worth it.

thanks for the pic they look pretty good i just dont know it the width is worth the 400$ price difference.

I'll second all the above thoughts.
It's not a super strange size, though there are few tires available in that size. Most are aggressive tread patterns. I doubt you'd ever find a radial in a 255. I'd go with that size if I could, but I drive too much street to justify a mud terrain. It's a pretty popular size in the offroad crowd. Very similar in looks to the 33x10.5x15 that BFG also offers in the AT and MT. I ran those on a Wrangler I had for awhile, loved the size.

Love my 255/85 Maxxis M/T's. Alot of people ask if they are 31's... must because they are so skinny? Bought these tires locally for $780.00 mounted and balanced. Had a set of 32/11.50R15's on a little toyota truck and got over 40,000 miles out of them.

um all 255 85's are radials. pretty much all tires u can buy in the US are radials, besides select swampers that clearly state that they are bias ply. at or mt has no bearing on this subject
