265/65R17 vs 255/75R17 vs 265/70R17

I am going to say no. The rubbing would be an issue. (you could shave away some of the plastic) When I had the tires put on originally it was a very close fit, the guy at the tire store said these are not going to fit. I told him just put them on and I
would judge the fit. They did fit, but only by less than 1/2 inch on the front side of the wheel well. But they only rub in reverse when I cut the wheels, but it is avoidable.

If I understand this correctly, with a 1" leveling kit, that should solve the problem...Right?

For what it's worth for the Discussion. I installed the 255/75/r17 JK Rubicon tires on my wife's 3rd gen months ago. I love them and will do it again. I got them with 400 mi on them.

As shown with a OME Lift.

Does anyone know if the tires would work without the 2/1 cornfed lift? And if so, how much rubbing would there be? I have a chance to buy a set at a really good price and was thinking about putting them on.

I'm trying to link back to an earlier post. This is a big tire that's working well on an 08 without a lift. Hope this works.



275/70r17 GYW SA Pictures!! Sorry for the delay.
Here's the 275/70r17 GYW SA pictures I promised. Sorry for the delay. I liked these tires over the BFG T/A's because they provide the off road ruggedness but without the very rough look.

I think they are taller than the spec 32.2" They increased ground clearance over the original 265/65r17's by slightly more than 1 inch.

So far, all is great. The 275/70r17 GYW SA tires are working just fine with no lift or other mods needed. However I did move the front plastic inter-fender piece a little more forward, very easy. 3 screws into plastic at the bottom.

Not noisy.
6.3% error in odometer, no big deal.
Not sure about MPG yet.

The very slight rubbing of the UCA, only at full turn, is of no concern and totally negligible.

I moved just the bottom end of the plastic piece forward about 0.75 inch. That works great leaving extra clearance for the bigger tire.

Reviving old thread As I believe this tire debate of 255/75/17 over 275/70/17 needs more life.. lol currently in the same boat myself and I’m leaning more towards the 255/75 right now although I’m fighting myself because I feel they will be too skinny.. but they are definitely the same in almost every other way the only major difference would be price of 255 should be cheap and also the 255 width is 10.0” as where the 275 is 10.8” so price and width are considering factors here which I am trying to get over...they are both TRUE 32” tire but do the skinny tire make a signicant difference ? How about handling? Or when the occasional off road situation?..

I have run the BFG 255/75/17's in the past with no complaints, currently running Cooper Discover AT3's. Much quieter than the BFG. I have a Daystar 3/2 puck lift, and 1.25 spacers. Some rubbing on the liners and mudflaps. Performance is great for what I do, I need to install the Bilstein 5100's to get a little more clearance.
