265/70/r16 vs. 285/75/r16

Mu next size is 255/85/16. It is even taller then the 285 tire!

255/85/16

This makes the most logical sense to me for a tire size. However, there are not as many options in this size unless you're looking for a more aggressive tread pattern. Not any great all-terrain options. I wish KO2's were available in the 255/85R16 size.

So options are more limited, than the more popular 285/75 from what I found when looking recently.

I ended up buying 265/75/16 and new wheels. Sold my nittos for $400. Was it absolutely necessary...nope. But I like the new setup and my truck looks awesome.

235/85/16 are only 32" tall. So you lose an inch in height vs 255/85/16 or 285/75/16.

I've heard that you are far more likely to scrape a rim with narrower tires like this, but have no experience with them.

I've loved my 255/85-16 in the Toyo MT. They never did me wrong.
Tire Calc converts them to a 33.1x10/16 where:
235/85 is: 31.7x9.3.....

I know each brand of tire is different in measurements, but yeah you would loose an inch or more in the height of the tire and the width .7".

As for answering Octanes question, I don't know but with my tires, I've never had an issue on my 8" wheels. That tire you asked about is .7" narrower yet (which would be .35" on each side of the sidewall), that's less then 3/8" of an inch less tire hanging off each side of the wheel, as I see it.

Unless I'm missing something, I think you'd be fine unless you're doing something really extreme..... or stupid. LOL

That was the same tire I was pricing out when I was ordering my 35s. But those and the STT Pro were both $600 more then the Kanati tires that I ended up getting. Price won over the look of the tread this time.

I agree, I was kind of hoping to go with a nice aggressive AT tire this time around. So no.. you're not banned this time. If that was the case, I would've been banned years ago! :jump::jump:
