Looks are in the eye...but what is not functional here? I have always thought that a larger wheel would traverse obstacles much easier than smaller. I had a long discussion with the TRD folks at FJ Summit on this topic and changed a lot of minds this past Summer when Morena and I really kicked ass at the FJ Summit this past Summer.

I don't see how a larger wheel, and smaller sidewall would have any benefit. A larger tire diameter overall makes sense, but a tire does so much more than just lift you up off the ground. You run a greater risk of damaging the tire and the wheel when airing down. And since airing down is a risk enough on a large wheel like that, you lose the extra comfort, flexibility and traction an aired down tire provides.
I'm not saying a lower profile tire wont get the job done, I just think it is riskier, and harder on the wheel and tire.
Just my opinion on low profile off road tires.

I guess I should have said that, that kind of tire and wheel set up does not fit my wants and needs for what I use my 4runner for. If that is what someone wants to do to their own vehicle I think it is great. I know I don't have the prettiest 4runner lol.

I always hate large wheels on trucks, but that actually looks good. However, I agree with the above. I would be very nervous about damaging a wheel or pinch flatting the tire against the rim off road.

Hopefully I can dispel that myth. I have heard many people say that and I can assure you, that Morena's big shoes have been put to the test and haven't given out. I have a lot more examples,,,just too lazy to down size the photos LOL.

You don't sound like a jerk. But see the post above this one and take a look at some of my photos on here. I air down all the time and really do some serious wheeling with these tires. The larger wheel is a great benefit. Your opinion is prevalent throughout the 4x4 world. I just haven't found it to be the case from my own experience.
Replace "wheel" with tire. Wheel size is irrelevant as the overall diameter can changed with the series of tires or amount of sidewall.

your tire size is actually quite good, being that its a 34" tire, yet only as wide as the stock tire, this gives you much less drag when driving down the road, but still gives you that advantage of being able to skim over gaps and rocks.
however the bigger 20" wheel is quite vulnerable to abuse offroad compared to a smaller 16" or 17" rim.
you also cannot get a 34" inch tire in a 265 inch width with any rim except for a 20. however you can get a 34" tire with a 285 or 275 in some different tires with a 17" or 18" wheel.

I don't understand this statement. Could you please elaborate?
4runner looks good.. I think the big wheels look good, but I havent personally strayed above 16 due to cost and functionality, but maybe I'm not seeing the big picture
