285/70/17 too big for 3" lift?

I'm buying new tires tomorrow and I want your input. I do trail riding where my suspension flexes a lot. I don't want rubbing. I just bought a pair of 1.5" spacers. I had it in my mind that I wanted 285/70/17, but I think those might be too big? What do you guys think.

I noticed they're a lot more options for 285s

I have my eyes on these if I can get them for the right price.

I also have my eyes on these.

Honestly I'm not even sure how to read tire sizes even though i've had it explained to me. lol :(

Some people on here run 285s.... if you have factory front bumper you are going to have to push the fender liner in and you're gonna have to do some trimming (bumper and frame)
 
Just as an option, look into some 255/80/17 and ditch the spacers. They are 33" tall but skinny (only about 3/8" slimmer than OEM) and should fit easier than 285's. Or, you could just trim a little here and there, nobody will notice anyway.
 
And tires are pretty simple ....
285/70 r17
285 is the top edge of the tire ....or the "part with the tread" or the width

70 is the hight of the tire from the edge of the rim to the outer edge of the tire or the height

And 17 would be the size of the rim it's going to fit

I don't know if i'd want to trim my frame.. I wouldn't feel comfortable.

The trim on the frame isn't done on any crucial part it's done just enough so that you can turn the wheel ....the only other issue you may have is the upper control arm, you "may" rub at full turn some do others don't, did you get aftermarket UCA?...i e looked onto this some lol I'm going the 285 route and have the 4x4 shop by me do the trimming on my truck

I have these.

I may get the shop that did my lift to do the trimming if they won't charge too much.

You will likely have to do the body mount chop. Google search (4Runner body mount chop) for details. I have the same set up and it was a must.

Also look at BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 275/70/17. Much cheaper than the 285 version at America's Tire.

Are you perchance running 285s? ....because if you are ....I have uca question....

I don't really want to do that. I'd probably be fine with 275/70/17s. I didn't see a very good selection on Discount Tire Direct.

I still can't guaranty you won't have to chop with the 275's but it would be much less I'm sure. I had 255/75-17's prior and never had a rub.

After heavy trimming I have no rub. The trimming its almost unnoticeable to the eye.
