285/70/17s on stock TRD pro rims

if using the 2021 TRD pro rims and putting 285s on them
will the rubbing be minor ?

mostly will I be ok with stock Upper control arms ?


just need a solid answer keep getting mixxed answers when i search as most dont fit 285s on stock pro rims and then say need aftermarket UCA but on youtube i saw some people having no issues so just need to confirm with someone here plz

PS: I had to do body mount chop after switching to 285. even with aftermarket UCA and maximum possible caster.
but many ppl would tell you they were fine.

It will rub two areas depending on your caster. It will rub on back of the lower part of your bumper and the mud flaps near body mount.

Both areas will requiring cutting, pushing and removing.

people who have to do mount chops on 285/70/17s are using some random aftermarket rims with random offset

im talking about using the Stock TRD 7'' rims

I’ve got 285 on TRD rims with two setups. (1) oem suspension 3” level kit: rubbing on inside the bumper cover, trimmed, pushed inner liner inside. (2)Swapped suspension and UCA , mud flaps had to remove with 5.2* Custer. No BMC. No rubbing

TRD Pro’s rarely have any issue. The fender liner mod is already done at the port, it has a 1” lift up front and the Pro wheel offset and width help. I just added Cornfed 1.5/1” spacers to mine two years ago and did no other mods and do not rub the UCA’s and only get a light scuff on the inner fender well under hard articulation.
If you don’t have a Pro you will need at least a 2.5” suspension lift(front, 1” rear min) and trim the front fender by the bumper. You may have to push in the fender liner and possibly remove your mud flaps. Every 4Runner seems to be a little different.
Also, you may have to increase the caster out to 4.5 degrees to clear the mud flaps/ body mount. I didn’t have to do any of that and most Pro owners don’t.

I had 285s rubbing like crazy on _stock_ rims. Without any wheel spacers. With 2" lift on front. With 4.3-4.5 caster. And still had to do BMC. Believe it or not..

If you don't want to do a BMC just do 275/70, they will be fine without a lift. I was able to do a 1.25inch spacer on my TRD OR rims once I got a lift and UCA. Yes I did fender liner mod and pulled back my mudflaps by making holes and using a ziptie.

285/70 just do a BMC get rid of mudflaps and have a lift. You will do all that in the end anyway, and this leads to be able to go 34s once you cut the front bumper a bit.

i dont have the pro . i have the 2021 Venture which comes in same rims as the pro but in gunmetal instead of black (much nicer imo)
you really think that 1'' lift will be a huge deal ?

but i suppose I can just do 275/70s and call it a day

That going bigger thread is full of wrong info. It's a very basic guide to get you started if even that. Here's something everyone will claim is impossible. 1.5" lift with 295s and no rubbing, no BMC, just a fender liner mod. According to that thread, I should have had to cut half the body off the frame.

On the Pro as compared to the other 4Runners, the 275’s clear without a problem because of all the aforementioned info I stated. I had 275’s on my Pro at stock height without issue off road. Pic below.
Again, on your Venture, I like the gunmetal too, you may have a problem with the front fender bumper/liner. If you added a 1” spacer you would probably still have to do the fender liner mod. The advantage of the 1”spacer up front would be to level it and reduce the nose dive.

Here is my experience.

I have a '20 Pro with the Eibach springs. They are 1.6" in front and I am running 285's with no rubbing. If I hadn't removed my mudflats then I would have rubbed there. IMO, 285's with no lift will look silly.

Street driving only obviously but yeah no issues. People fail to realize rubbing issues are self inflicted. People want wide wheels with aggressive offset and I get it but that’s the problem. Running the correct wheel is key to not rubbing. 1.5” front 1.5” rear 295/70/17 on FX Pro wheels. No BMC, just a fender liner mod, no rubbing.

I’m running 285 KO2s on the stock rims on my 19Pro. Zero rub and mudflaps are still on and no BMC. Have 2” lift and SPC arms.

285s (Pirelli Scorpion AT+) on PRO wheels. No lift (backordered) no spacers. no uca. No bmc. Totally stock truck. Pushed the liner and trimmed the corners off the front bumper before install (maybe an inch of plastic tops) you would never know it isn't factory. Removed front flaps. Zero rub on the street. Put the flaps back on to minimize rash on the rockers. Minor rub on the flaps when turning in reverse or over bumps. Truck is dd. Been avoiding hard wheeling until suspension shows up but I do mash up and down local dirt roads and hit some bumpy rocky spots. Zero rub unless I'm turning over a bump where it will graze the flaps.
