285/75/16R on an 04 4R SR5

Hey guys,

New around here. I have an 04 SR5, its my first rig so I'm pretty juiced about it. Right now not much excitement in regards to it. The standard Thule rack for the snowboards, basic interior crap. Just now getting to the fun stuff.

Right now I have an OME lift from Slee sittin in the back eagerly awaiting Saturday for install. Now I'm looking around for a tire setup.

I'd like to run 285/75/16 BFG AT's as they seem to be the best application for my needs. I know that the stock rim will not work with this size as it'll bang on the UCA and knuckle. Since I have the SR5 I can rock 16s which is killer but now I'm trying to find a wheel. I know the AR Majavo's are really common for this setup with their 16x8 4.5" bs". Unfortunately I think they're too expensive for what they are. I mean, I'm hard pressed to drop $200 a wheel. I understand you get what you pay for, but until someone can paint out the value there I'd like to avoid it.

Right now I'm looking at the 16x7.5 4.5" TRD FJ rims.

I'm guessing that after the install of my OME lift I know I'll be doing some trimming but I'm hoping I'll be fine with my stock UCAs. Can anyone who is running this setup shed some insight? I've PM'd people off of other forums but no luck and this forum has been really buggy for me the week with database issues.

Also, if anyone knows any other rims that fits my size requirements and wants to share that'd be rad. I've looked all over and haven't had much luck in my bolt pattern.

You can't fit 285/75/16 on stock rims with a 3/2" 4Runner? That's news to me.

There are a few owners running that tire size, and I believe they are running stock rims with a spacer. If you don't want to run with a spacer, you would probably need a rim with the correct offset. One thing to check though... Did your '04 come with 16" or 17" rims? A few of the SR5's with 17" rims came with the larger brakes normally found on the sport models, in which case, 16" rims would not fit.

Who has ran that setup on the stock 16? From everything I've read, the stock 16 will still bang the knuckle and the UCA at full lock. Is this incorrect?

I've had a ***** of a time actually contacting anyone who themselves has ran this setup, so I feel like a lot of the information I am getting is second hand.

My SR5 has the smaller breaks.

You can try AR Baja rims in 16x8 with 4.5 backspacing. Here in Canada they goes for $120 each.

Thanks Alex. I actually picked up the AR Chambers today in teflon. I have 5 of those headed my way now. Rig sure is gonna take a transformation between now and next Saturday. Can't wait.

Sorry.. Yes, everybody I have seen was running a 16x8 rim with spacers. Here is a thread from yotatech:

so I guess this takes me back to the whole, "do I keep the 265/75/16 tires or do I risk doing damage to my truck with the larger 285's and wheel spacers" question. I just don't have the money for new wheels.

Well guys, I'll be sure to take a lot of photographs.

MT's in general have a larger profile than ATs, some companies to the point where the AT vs MT difference is enough to cause rubbing or no rubbing. Before I got the spare route (which I personally would like to avoid) I'll see what happens with the ATs.

I got the Slee OME lift on yesterday. Looks and rides great. I am so happy with it.

Had some minor issues, such as the rear shock abosrber had one of the bushing sleeves be cranky. We ended up torchin it, that didn't work so we stripped the bushing got the shock off and dremelled the sleeve. That too forever but besides that all was well.

So many new toys. Lift, wheels, tires, sliders, and probably buying Alex's carrier.

Not necessarily... I have an end of MY 2004 SR5 has the larger brakes with the 17" wheel option. Typically the SR5 and Limited have the same diameter brakes from and rear. SE models have front brakes that are approximately 1" larger diameter in the front.

just installed a 3/2, 1.25" spacers, and 285/70/17 on my SR5 with minor trimming. i suggest getting the spacers to avoid some rubbing. IMO it also looks better with the spacers
