285/75/17 or 315/70/17

It will be time for tires shortly and I keep going back and forth. I have a 2002 4R auto with 4.88, 2.5" + suspension lift, 1" BL, 1.5" wheel spacers......and run a 285/70/17 (33x11.5 true to size) Mud terrain now. I'm tall enough for 35's but like the idea of a 34 x 11.50'ish size.

why not a 305 70 17 or a 295 70 17? a 315 70 17 is actually closer to a 36... i mean if you look at how so called 35" tires are labeled they closer resemble a actual 34" tire and that would be a 305...

Only go 35 if you're willing to tub the fenders... Get ready to cut, chop, pound, and weld!

I purchase tires by the size listed under the specifications sheet. And yes most 315' are 34....something by 12......something. I like taller and narrower. Pinch welds were flattened some time ago. No I don't go OffRoad as much as I used to, though I'd like that to change.

Most 35s are not 35" more like 34"... Some even smaller like 33.8/9. 315s end up pretty close to an actual 35", just like most 36s tires are actually closer to a 35". If you want a metric version of a 35 go 305. My 305 70 17 are almost identical to a 35 12.50 15.

Got a little antsy,,,,,and got tired of waiting on the Nitto Ridge Grappler in a 285/75/17 ( also no specifications on what size thy will actually be until next month). So I pulled the trigger on a set of Toyo RT's in 315/70/17.

285/75/17 is a great tire size. Its a nice tall narrow 33.8 tire. I vote for that size.

Rubbing? Yes, yes I do. It does not rub while mall crawling but turn the wheels and add a bump....bingo. I'll either hammer out the difference or go from a 1" body lift to a 2".
