285/75 w/ no lift for street only

Do you guys think I would be ok with 285/75r16 with no lift on 98' 4x4 limited if I am only doing street driving. I have read that it will rub fenders while off roading for sure, but if i keep it on the street until I have lift put on do yall think I will do any damage to truck/fenders. I know I will have to trim a little but that is fine, and i know it will rub at full turn lock.

I have an 01 with 2.5" of lift. I rub every time I turn my wheels 1/2 turn (easy fix with some inner shaving). I think you would rub way to much without tons of inside trimming

It wont do any damage to the truck (except for maybe some plastic), but it might shred your new tires.

If you're planning on lifting anyway, just wait. Or you could perform some pretty major surgery to run 285's with no lift. But once you start chopping off sheet metal, there's no turning back.

You can run them. Member on here TheKid ran 285's on his with no lift for quite a while. You'll need to do some trimming but it'll work.

If you down to cut fenders and hammer some stuff you can run them. Just remember on the street they have pot holes, speed bumps and other ways that will cause you too flex. With my 265's and no lift I would rub every time I left my drive way or went up a curb or speed bump with the tires a little turned.

you should be just fine, i had 285 70 17s, so i can say for sure on the 16" wheel, but you should be fine. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/105400-rescue-runner-build-thread.html thats my build thread, it covers it in there, and has pics showing how it looks and how much room you have. you have to hammer over the pinch welds, but i lived with that set up for over a year -285s and no lift. then i lifted slightly and was ok, but when i went to full 3" up front, i needed to get spacers cause the more you lift the more your LCAs are pushed down and in(geometry), so it will pull your tires into the UCA and UBJ so they will rub while driving. a 1.25" wheel spacer fixed this and brought me back out to just over 1/8" wider on each side -1/4" total track width increase up front.
now with that being said not all tires are the same, i was running maxxis bighorns and nitto terra grapplers, both are a fairly wide tire for their given size, so you should be able to fit most tires, but i can not promise they will all fit... i saw a set of 285 70 17 good year MTR kevlar tires and they looked awfully narrow comparatively to my nittos and my KM1s of the same size so they would probably work even with their big side lugs. but dont let guys sit here and tell you no way it will never work cause yeah chances are it will. also note that i do not have a limited or sport runner, i simply have a SR5 and no crazy huge cadling or flares. best of luck to you and i say go for it!

I've got 285/75 16's, cooper discoverer stt, with no lift and I'm pretty much fine. Although I do have a 99 highlander, and the tread is pretty much worn down, it will rub when turned completely.

doesn't matter but I will be moving down to 265/75 16's when I install my lift.

i rode around town a bit with 285s. Your gonna have to do some trimming, nothing major if your not wheeling. the backspacing of your wheels is gonna determine how much rub you get also, i was running a 4.5" bs with 99 tall coils.
