285/75R17 Question...yes 75 not 70...

Anyone know why there aren't more tire options in a 285/75R17 size?

I'm running 285/70R17s now and I want to go slightly taller but not wider if possible. Seems like the 75 is my best option for that but I can't seem to find more than like a handful of tire options in that size.

I know a lot of guys are running the 295/70R17s but aren't those just supposed to be wider and not any taller?

What is yall's take on this?

So a 295/70R17 are wider as you mentioned, yes. But they are also taller, the 2nd number (70 in this case) is a percentage. The height of the tire from rim to tread written as a percentage of the width (the first number). So these would be taller because 70% of 295> 70% of 285.

Looked at 255/80/17 yet? They are tall but common. Honestly they aren't wide and mean but skinny tires give good grip in mud and snow. I think I am going to run those after I do a 3/2 spacer lift.

Tall skinny is better then wide In everything Other then Soft Sand.... But air'd down they are still fine. Wide looks better, but thats it.

Check out the Falkens or Toyos MT

Another option if you're looking for bigger, Kenda just came out with the 35/10.5/17. I'm running these now. They are a skinny R/T tire, snow rated, and look badass. I'll have a review up later.

For me that's not big enough of a height change to justify the additional problems that wider tires are going to introduce for me. I really like that 295 size on 5th gens but I don't think I am going to go that direction with this build

Yes I've checked them out, briefly. Maybe I need to take a second look at them. I really like the beefy look of a wider tire but maybe the extra height and cost savings (in gas and rubber) will justify it.

Honestly, I agree and don’t think the width gain would be worth the small height gain either. Just wanted to clarify and make sure you knew the options fully

The Yoko's in this size run small fyi - my buddy just picked them up and compared to his old Cooper ST Max in the 285/75/17, they look 1/4 inch smaller.

The Toyo MT in the 34" looks great, also expensive

Gotcha! Thanks for the info man. I kind of figured that might be the case. I've seen them in a 37 and they did seem a bit smaller than a standard 37. Them running just a hair smaller actually might be a good thing for me in this case haha

[MENTION=109447]Jaws82[/MENTION] ran the Toyo MT in 285/75/17, he loved the tires, they last forever, are tough as nails, and look great. He did mention they were not the best in terms of road manners. He was running a 3/2 Icon lift with a body mount chop. He had them mounted on SCS wheels, 17x8.5, not sure of backspacing.

The 285/75 isn't too difficult to fit as long as you have a BMC

I like my Falken AT3W 285/75/17s. I went with the for the reason of taller without being wider. I had to cut a ton to fit them though with my 3” lift. After I added the 1” body lift I was fine though

As a follow up to this thread I ended up with 285/75R17 Yokohama Geolandar MT G003s and they are freaking awesome.

Definitely a bit smaller than advertised but that is to be expected. I'm thinking that with a bit more trimming of the rear fender area (where the mud flap formerly was), a "custom" BMC/relocation by a local fab guy in November, and flattening of the pinch weld, that everything should be good to go.

I wanted to try to avoid running a body lift because I want the Victory 4x4 front hybrid bumper eventually and the fitment isn't made to be compatible with a BL according to them. Plus I didn't want the hassle of installing one of them but we shall see after all of the aforementioned stuff if that BL is necessary in the end.
