so i just picked up a set of 285s but i really dont have the money for spacers. Is there anyone that has 285s with no spacers? I feel like im going to rub like crazy! any advice or am i kinda screwd?

Are you referring to lift spacers or wheel spacers? Without a lift, they'll definitely rub like crazy. Without wheel spacers, most likely you'll rub on the upper control arm on the front. Either way, gonna rub.

Tired it with E-rated Terra Grapplers...they wouldn't even bolt up on the hub because it was rubbing so bad. I have heard reports (very few) of some getting away with it but I wouldn't count on it. You can always try though...
So just to play devil's advocate, I have a set of 285/70/17 Duratracs mounted on 2010 TE wheels on my 08 sport V8 with no spacers and encountered very minimal rubbing. I still have my front mudflaps etc. I did make use of a heat gun on the fender liner and eliminated any rubbing on that. I did trim the corner of the bumper (about 1/2 inch) but its not even noticeable. For on road driving and non hardcore trails, I have yet to rub at all. Goes to show that every vehicle is different. (BTW this is with a 3/2)
That's a good combo. I have Light Racing UCR's which I think push the tires back some- I had to chop the body mounts, remove mud flaps and hammer the fender liner pinch welds flat.

I would expect that setup to have minimal rubbing as the highest amount of offset that allows one to clear the suspension components would be ideal in regards to reducing extra rubbing on the exterior parts (fender, BM, flaps, etc). I think the TE wheels have the same offset as the FJ wheels (+15mm, or -15mm than 4th gen stock wheels). I know that Duratracs run a little "beefier" than other ATs and nearly measure a true 33".
Can you please explain what you mean by the LR UCAs pushing the tire back? Are you referring to the increase caster (although that would technically be more forward)? I actually just purchased a set myself and can't wait to get my caster back!
Also, I'm suprised you are rubbing that much with such a reasonable offset. I'm running 285/70/17 Cooper STT (true 33" tire as well) with FJ wheels and a 1" wheel spacer (effectively 17x7.5 -10mm offset) and only had to do minor trimming on the front of the fender, push the liner forward, and remove my mud flaps. Granted this was primarily onroad but I did flex a little without any rubbing. However, if you're doing serious offroading and tucking those all the way in I definately understand the rubbing.

All I know is that with the stock wheels and spacers, the tires hit the body mount so hard it affected how far I could turn the wheels! I chopped them real good. With the FJ wheels and no spacers, it looks like I have a little more clearance, but I can't quantify that.
Here was the body mount on level ground and wheel turned. Notice how close the tire is to the fender liner- BEFORE compression. Now that I've removed the spacers, there is more room with the less offset.

You know what, I forgot that you have a little less lift than me in the front. That would make a huge difference. Not sure exactly how much lift you're measuring but I'm currently around ~4" in the front (39" fender to ground with the 285 STTs).

Thanks for all the imput guys. i think im just going to hold on to the tires for a little and either put some spidertrax on or do new wheels. i just think spacers are kinda sketchy though.
Good call. The spacers do amplify any vibes/imbalance in the tires. My ride smooth out a lot removing them and going to the FJ wheels.

I would love to run then fj wheels you have! i think they look super bad a$$ but they are so freaking hard to find. Im trying to do this build on a budget. I picked up the tires used with 12/32s left for $450. Really a deal that i couldnt pass up.
