2k limited cat converter

My 2000 federal emissions cat is in bad shape. No codes but the hangers broke off and are attached with pipe clamps. Also my o2 sensor bung has rusted away partially. And my flanges on both sides are almost paper thin.

I live in NY so I can’t remove it. Unless someone knows how to bypass check engine lights via some kind of diode etc.


Do I get it welded professionally? Or just get a new one from dealer? Car has only 140k on it and the frame and body are good. Wife hates it but she doesn’t drive it lol.

I have gone thru this a couple of time. Will give you my 2 cents. fellow rust belt inhabitant.

Non rust belt people are going to respond... just head to the salvage place and grab one... ah yea all of them here look just like the rusted hunk you already have... maybe get lucky to find one from out of state that just died... could happen. probably not.

I have used a local shop to re-make the exhaust from headers back, including a new custom cat. I think it was about $600. Brand new custom built cats for these trucks are not as expensive as you would think and the mom and pop exhaust shops do excellent work at reasonable prices. it's probably a cut off everything anyways.

Jungle website (amazon) has complete cat->tailpipe cheapies out of aluminized metal. I'm running one of these on my rig right now. it's not toyota quality but heck for $300 total it's not bad and has been fine. it will not last 20 years but it should last 4-5.
