2lt engine over revs like crazy

Hi all, My 1990 2lt surf surges when idling and occasionally it just goes crazy and over revs to about 4500 rpm and more, i have to turn the key off then back on to stop it.

It did it yesterday with my kids in the car and needless to say none of them will go near it.:lmao: (probably didn't help that i thought it hilarious to scream "IT'S GONNA BLOW)

it smokes a bit but i put an oil catch can in the pipe leading from the rockercover and it is helping to clear it up a bit. (caught about 5 ml over 150 klm of driving).
any help would be awesome, cheers

Assuming you aren't stomping on the gas then you have an air leak somewhere you need to fix, probably a cracked rubber hose.
