That's exactly the type of mount I have been looking for to use with a Yaesu FT-857D Antenna so I can lay it down...

I used a connector from Fry's Electronics, so I don't know what the model # I used is, but it looked just like this: CLICK HERE

I am debating between the drilled NMO in the cab roof -vs- mounting on the factory roof rails. How did you route from the roof-rack to the "windshield gap along the firewall"? This would avoid drilling a hole in the roof.
Conversely, if I drill the hole, it looks like it may be super easy to run the antenna wire down behind the passenger door rear weather seal - then to beneath the seat where I hope to place the radio.

Wweinaug:My Yaesu FTM-100DR I just installed, bought a antenna extension cable and everything was just the perfect length. Ive got the mic comming up under the side of the seat to the console.
Mount and my around town antenna, I carry a longer one in the back.
I like how you have the head unit mounted above your rear-view mirror. How did you route the control cable for the head unit?

This is what I use. Diamond 2m/440 Ant, Diamond 9000 LRM motorize Ant. mount.
I have a button on my console (comes with eh Diamond 9000 LRM) and I lower and raise remotely. Please note that after 4 years I have to replace it, because someone in my family went into a Parking garage with the antenna up :cry2:
Will be replacing it when I get my new roof rack.

About interference between antenna and ditch light
I see a lot of people installing their antennas on the driver or passenger side in front of the vehicle. As I will installing some LED ditch light on both side, I am concerned about interference with the light's electronics. Anybody with such a configuration? The answer may obviously depend on the light brand as shielding may be different from lights to lights.

Teeing to reactivate this thread. Any equipment updates in the last couple years in terms of mounts that people suggest?
I’m getting a prinsu no drill rack (cuz I can’t afford the Gobi stealth) and am trying to figure out how to mount a dual band antenna to it in such a way I can lower it for daily driving/parking garages.

If you attach an antenna mount to your rack, make sure the rack has a good ground connection to the body of the vehicle and that the mount makes good electrical contact with the rack. This will ensure a decent ground plain for the antenna and mitigate RF from traveling back down the coax.
As for clearance, use a 19" VHF whip when you are in town and put on a dual band antenna when you are 'wheeling. The 19" whip works on both VHF and UHF and is extremely flexible. Use a quality (Larsen, PCtel--NOT Tram or Browning) NMO mount and Larsen antennas. The Antenna Farm is a good source for mounts and antennas. Their prices are reasonable and the offer personalized service if you need it.
