I have a blue sea system and I like the simplicity and manual override function ability of it. Buyer beware they are a never ending battle of sourcing wire, fuses, buses, terminals, fab work, and more work and headache than you will ever plan on for the install (at least in my case). So ask yourself before you drop almost a grand on all this if you really need it or just want it? I wheel solo a lot so to me it was a need in the case my main battery went dead I would have a backup. Just my .02.

Yeah mine would be simply to supplement extra power from aftermarket audio. I wouldnt drop that much on it either. this is all an idea now and just trying to see what i would need to do and could do, based on others work. Thanks for the heads up Antman! Looks quality!!

I researched for MONTHS before diving in on my setup and couldn't be happier with it. When I was running my thermoelectric cooler I killed my main battery at least 3 times and used the dual battery system to self jumpstart. Worked great.
7 months so far and not 1 problem other than the stock alternator has trouble (can't) keep a hard-working deep cycle battery fully charged. By that, I mean my ARB fridge runs 24/7. After a few weeks I notice the main battery is slow to crank the engine over. This is because there is never enough run time- despite my 30 minute commute daily- to fully charge that big battery. Slowly but surely it drains down. I solved this by plugging it into a battery charger/maintainer about once per month during the summer.
This is not a malfunction in the system, just the nature of the beast. The stock alternator wasn't ever meant to fully charge a deep-cycle battery.
I just wanted you to know what to expect- and thanks for the compliment BTW!

I linked the search because there are a few relevant threads there including the sticky "Duel batteries on the cheap" mentioned above. Also if you click on images, you can see some of the available cages. Pelfrybilt is a popular cage, equipt1 has some kits. The main issue is if your 4runner has the emissions pump, you don't have a ton of space for a second battery. I don't know what year they started using the pumps. Columbia Overland makes a duel battery cage for the 2nd gen Tacoma, and sometimes their stuff is compatible with our vehicles, It puts two batteries in the place of our stock battery.
