2nd Gen Antenna!

the power antenna that was on my 95 is missing the mast and I can't just screw a new one in. Anyone know of an easy/good replacement for just a standard antenna? the mounting hole is located on the angled part of the fender so I'm thinking a standard antenna from the parts store won't mount up to the fender very well. Any ideas!!?? Thanks!!!!!!

If I'm not mistaken another member on this website(or yotatech) put one of these on. its a not motorized version. and it looks good from the pics and inexpensive also. I have been looking into replacing my broken motorized too.

^That. All you gotta do is pull the center console, unplug the antenna from the back of the radio, pull the glovebox, unclip the line, then goto the fenderwell, pull the plastic fender liner, reach in, unbolt the antenna assembly, pull the wire out from the firewall and install the whip antenna in reverse order.

1-2 Banana job, about 45min if you've never done one.

*Wear long sleeves and gloves when in the fenderwell, the inside edges of the fenders can have sharp spots from the original stamping.

+1 if you want to remove the power antenna.

Or you can just buy a new mast if motor still works.

FWIW, Harada was the OEM for the 1st gen T4R and HiLux antennas. You can probably find one for a same year Toyota Pickup since the fenders are the same.

I will deny if asked, and don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence, but having learned from experience on 90 4runner, my 1st attempt at replacing the mast started by removing the motor then realized only had to unscrew the stop at the fender where the mast feeds into and turn the ignition and radio on and the cable fed itself out. It's reversed for installing; although may want to install the stop before feeding the mast? What took an hour should have taken 5 min's, and probly should go into the 'do it yourselfer' stunts thread. Agree with CodeBuster, if motor works and mast housing intact may consider replacing.

I've replaced the mast on my T4R twice, my wife's LC once, and couple of friends. I have yet to replace one where the end comes out, that usually only happens when the antenna mast has broken off. Most of the time it breaks in the inside of the housing. You have to remove the broken track piece before being able to install the new mast. Or else the antenna will not fully retract.

If you still need a fixed antenna. The guy I recently got parts from had a fixed antenna on the 90 T4R he was parting out. He's in San Bernardino, pretty close to Redlands. Check out the CL link in the 4 Sale section. He's a pretty cool guy, he might give it to you for a couple of bucks.
