More Info.
Here is a list of things I have done to the truck since I bought it:
- Purchased with 129,600 miles at the end of November 2011.
- NON-OP when purchased from previous owner, owner said “they didn’t drive it enough to register it”.
- 12/22/11 Title Issued under my Dad’s name for cheaper insurance.
- Registered - 1/22/2012 previously on NON-OP because went to the DMV in December 2011, have to pay for two years of registration even though your only registering for a month till its 2012, unless I wait till January to register it since the DMV renewal for the truck is in January.
- 1st service was accomplished by me in front of my house in the driveway:
-Took battery out, hold down clamp, j-bolt, 1-nut, and 1-bolt missing so
purchased new at Crown Toyota.
- Zinc primed battery support then painted battery support because it was starting to rust a little. Went to Auto Meza Paint and got the color coded paint(Evergreen Pearl).
- Radiator was filled with rusty colored antifreeze/coolant, so I drained the whole system, then flushed everything out. Took radiator down to Ronny’s Radiator Shop in Escondido, had radiator cleaned and pressure tested, checked out fine. Picked up the radiator and found it was spray painted and wasn’t happy with how it looked so I sanded and painted with POR-15.
- Plastic radiator shroud was held on with 2 paper clips so I replaced it with a new one from Crown.
- Took thermostat off when flushing coolant system, it was a cheap aftermarket thermostat so replaced it with a genuine one from Toyota of Escondido. Then sealed thermostat housing with FIPG.
- Painted the bottom part of the top coolant inlet and resealed with FIPG.
- Removed radiator expansion tank, cleaned it and then reinstalled it.
- Installed a new radiator cap, bought it from Toyota of Escondido. Original cap had bad gasket.
- Took the whole air intake system off, excessively cleaned Mass Air Flow inside and out. No filter in air box when I bought the truck so I put a new one in from Crown.
- Replaced air intake hose from throttle body to air intake elbow, purchased from Crown.
- Replaced breather hose from left valve cover to air intake hose, purchased from Crown.
- Smelled like their was a Gas leak when truck would idle.
- Took plenum off cleaned as much carbon build up as I could. Detached throttle body from plenum, cleaned inside and out. Replaced gasket between throttle body and plenum with new one from Crown. Also replaced dash pot and dash pot screw with new one from Crown.
- Replaced fuel damper(thought of gas smell) with new one from Crown.
- Found cold start injector mounting bolt was cause of gas smell, just tightened it and gas smell went away.
- Previous owner or mechanic who worked on the truck broke the rear intake manifold stud and he also elongated the hole for the plenum. I drilled out the stud and put in a new stud with JB weld, didn’t hold. Eventually intake manifold and plenum need to be replaced. No vacuum leaks.
- Valve cover’s seeped oil so I removed and cleaned them. Installed new valve cover gasket’s, pcv valve, and pcv valve hose and they were purchased from Crown.
- New plenum gasket from Crown was installed.
- New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor purchased from Toyota Parts Barn.
- New accelerator cable from Toyota Parts Barn.
- Replaced rear axle and front differential fluid with Mobil 1 75w-90. New fill and drain plug crush washers from Toyota Parts Barn.
- Transfer case fluid replaced with Toyota Dexron Transmission Fluid. New crush washers for fill and drain plug from Toyota Parts Barn.
- Had fuel filter, fuel line to engine, and automatic transmission fluid all replaced at Alternative Automotive with genuine Toyota parts . Automatic transmission pan was dropped, cleaned, then resealed with Toyota FIPG for transmission parts(Orange). Used Toyota Dexron Transmission Fluid to refill transmission.
- Went to Gallant’s wreckage yard for a used rear bumper and driver’s side headlight because the truck had a chipped headlight and the rear bumper was rotted out. Only bought headlight at Gallant’s.
- Went to Highway 67 Truck Dismantlers for rear bumper found a perfect one with bumper supports.
- Removed old bumper and spare tire. Got the spare rim sand blasted and powder coated in the factory finish.
- Painted spare tire support with POR-15 since it was beginning to rot.
- All new spare tire hoist components from Crown.
- Under coated rear bumper with rubberized undercoating from Duplicolor.
- Painted bumper supports with POR-15.
- Polished rear bumper.
- Installed rear bumper and spare tire components.
- Removed front grille, stripped paint because of rock chips. Painted with SEM Black Trim Paint.
- Polished chrome on grille and polished all lights on front end.
- Removed front bumper because it wasn’t aligned properly, undercoated rear of front bumper, reinstalled-properly aligned. Replaced all front light bulbs with ones from Crown.
- Removed hood latch, cleaned, and painted it.
- Replaced rear mud flaps with new ones from Crown.
- Took factory step bar off and put factory mud flaps on front from Crown.
- Replaced dash pad with used one (Perfect Condition).
- Painted center dash part because paint was discoloring.
- Installed 4” Infinity Kappa Speakers in front factory location.
- Installed 5.25” Infinity Kappa Woofers in rear factory location.
- Installed 1” Infinity Tweeters in rear factory location.
- Installed new Nakamichi head unit in dash with aux cable that goes into storage box.
- Replaced drivers side door light housing.
- Replaced front and rear wiper blades with new ones from Crown.
- Missing Air Filter Replacement sticker so purchased one from Crown.
