Hi there! I have been battling cancer and am new to the forums. I just acquired a 2nd gen 4runner and am having some issues getting her running smoothly. The first problem was a water leak from the water bypass outlet pipe. After taking the intake manifold off to reach it better (now I know not to do that) I think I was able to remedy that problem. However, when putting everything back together, some of the hoses cracked from being so brittle. I patched everything up and put it back together, but now when I start her up she starts screaming at 4,000 RPM. I am scared to put it in gear at that high of an idle. I think the problem is just how I put the vacuum lines back on, but I don't see another way to get them to fit. Any suggestions?? Anything would be awesome!

I would suspect a vacuum leak. How did you fix the broken lines? I would replace them and try again.

I just picked up a 2nd gen this weekend. It's a 94, with 3.0 and 5 speed. I paid $600 for it, and all it needed was a water pump. That problem won't be a problem after the 4 day weekend I have coming this week.

Been a minute since I posted here's some new pictures

Rear is lifted 2inches with OME coils, has billi 4600's all around, CB antenna in the stock antenna place, and finally pulled off the OEM side-steps. Will have sliders in January, hoping to get a winch plate mounted up front to get a winch on shortly as well.

The pictures include the day I pulled the runners, some offroading catching the fall colors out by Glenwood Springs on the transfer trail, and then finally some wheeling around Fort Collins in our first snow of the season with my buddy in his 100 series. Finally one pic of her most popular setup with the mountain bike out back.

Hey all, new here! I had a 2000 4runner from age 17-26, then got rid of it for an 09 Tundra, then got rid of that for an 01 Tundra, and on Saturday I treated myself to this 92 4Runner with 250k miles. Runs really great and is in great condition. I have a list of things I'd like to do to it:

- Replace carpet
- Black out headlights and tail lights
- Paint front and rear bumper black
- Remove all emblems
- Get a full length roof rack
- Touchscreen radio
- Windows tinted
- Satoshi grill mod

I'll post progress as I knock these out!

A few more photos! First 2 are with my small little homemade enclosed trailer for my woodwork business, then the 2nd two are before the Jaguars game Sunday. My fiancé is getting jealous of how much I love my new(to me) 4runner[emoji23].

Currently have all the lights and front grill off with paint drying, taking advantage of my little lady being out of town and knocking out some mods on this gloomy day in FL. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Can you give some more info on your full roof rack? What mounts did you get for over the front of the top of the 4runner? What rack is it?

I’ve got a small rack now that you can see in the above pics but definitely would love to extend it to the full length like yours, just don’t know where to begin. Thanks!

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like my rack but with tubes extending on the top and bottom. I noticed there are no cross bars in the middle section. Is that square tubing to support the front? Very intriguing design.

I wanted to extend my factory rails by adding those pieces from another 4Runner to make a full length... Issue is that I haven't gotten the nerve to add holes to my roof

It’s a cheap Walmart rack forgot the brand, it was small then I extended it. I used round tube and square tubing over the sunroof to support the front. I ended up welding the square tube because I was at a loss on how to securely mount it.


It’s still a work in progress; need to at the cross bars over the extended portion in the center. Not the best looking rack by far but I like it. An added bonus is that I’m happy at the fact that I didn’t spend and arm and a leg on something that is more an aesthetic thing. I have used the to haul gear but I couldn’t justify spending anything close to what a legit full rack costs.

I went ahead and did it a couple of years ago on my 94 when I was going to run a full length basket. I think I extended it 26" and added about 5 1/4-20 nutserts. I just sealed the nutsert with silicone sealer when i did the install. 2 years later I have had no leaks. One thing I did do was use a collar around the drill bit so I didn't drill into the headliner
