Now with painted wheels

My Ultra (crappy) wheels lost their shine real fast and started pitting. So instead of fighting that battle for years to come I decided to paint them black to match the truck.

time to get rid of the corny tribal art and 80's rims...love those black steelies i've seen here in the site but do i need to jack up my ride? Are 15" or 16" better? how wide? i'm new to this... i know the rear sags a little bit. i need to get with someone who know's their sh*t in northern NJ.

My "new" '94 4runner

Picked her up yesterday. '94, 3.0 6cyl, 2wd, 111K miles. I'm essentially the second owner and it's been a Florida car it's whole life. The damn thing's in near mint condition body and interior wise. All the bells and whistles work. There is what appears to be an oil leak that I'll have to figure out and a slight noise in the front end when turned full stop and hitting a bump. Otherwise I'm as giddy as a kid on Christmas:biggrin2::biggrin2:

This could be the cap missing from the steering stop, look underneath where it touches, the caps don't last and it might be as simple fix as a blob of grease on the contact surfaces.

Nice truck btw.

Bolt in the top circle touches the curved bit to the right.

What does the cap look like? Mine looks like it still has some cap on the end of the bolt but it makes a snapping noise when the steering is at full lock and the suspension articulates.

I have heard of them making a popping noise, but not actually heard one. If there is a ridge worn on the stop, as it could if mostly it hits the stop on level ground, it may well "crack" as the bolt moves up when the suspension lifts.

Get someone to hold it on full lock and someone else to bounce the front of the truck while you have a look under.

I did exactly as you described and I couldn't hear anything. It seems like it only pops when the suspension really moves, like going into a driveway at full lock.

Could the sound be a balljoint? Cause while I was under the truck I noticed that one of the balljoints looked squished and a little bit of grease was weeping out.

Mine was doing exactly that...making a horrid noise when turned full right or left into the driveway or something similar. I also was not able to duplicate the sound with it sitting still and bouncing the front end up and down. Greasing the stops got rid of the sound for me entirely now.
