2nd Treadwright failure in less than a month

"But how long ago was this? You know their new process is far superior to what they were doing 18 months ago."

Retreads wont find a way on any my vehicles.

So many new tire real name brand options for just about the same price (+/- 10% cost of treadwrongs)

I believe in saving money and being economical but not on the pieces that carry your vehicle down the road at 80 mph and at 10 psi over sketchy terrain, both could be fatal if you have an issue in either scenario.
 
i just had a catastrophic sidewall failure on a 285/75 16 treadwright come through my shop last month. blew out doing 70 something miles an hour down the highway. something aint right over there at treadwright.
 
Had my third set come in to be installed today. On par with the last two, shitty run-out ans took a ton of weight to balance (8oz on a 31). I will say they look better with the sidewall remolded, but they're still garbage. I'd run a shitty Chinese tire over these any day.

They balanced way better before they went bead 2 bead on the remolds. I had tire shops say they didn't even have to add weights to some of the tires.

I gave treadwright a long email yesterday asking about quality since I've convinced so many to use them in my free promotion of there company along with defending them over the years.

I have always loved there tires offroad and the kedge grip is absolutely amazing in snow and ice on the street.

I've ran Chinese tires also but they wore out ridiculously fast so I went back to treadwright. Guess it's time to go back to the real tires since this could become a serious safety issue.

I used to run treadwrights with good results until I tried Goodyear Authority tires. I have not touched another tire since. They went on my TJ, my XJ, and this 4runner. Bestest tire I ever tried. I recommend you try em.

This is why semi's can use retreads on all wheels except for steers (front 2). All of the other axels have secondary tires to support the vehicle if one blows, if you blow a steer tire, you're more likely to have a really bad day.
 
That's interesting and not sure how I missed this but been here and there...

So my father has gone through two or three of the same tire's but they aren't treadwrights(I think..??). But the first developed a bubble on the inside of the tire causing a HORRIBLE vibration. The second developed bubble on the outside of the tire near the bead area. The third I wanna say had some weird defect in the thread pattern. Two of the times we were pulling the toy-hauler with the rock crawler in it, the third was just pulling a trailer.

I personally think some manufacturing has changed to cut corners and save a few cents. If they keep sending one's become a tire-reseller? :)

Those couragia MTs are especially garbage tires, even compared to other tires in the same range, the Dunlop fierce attitude, Ironman KM2 ripoff and atturo trail blade are half decent, all have decent wear patterns compared to most of the others that tend to cup out like a mofo or wear uneven (the couragia does both.)

A personal favorite bang for the buck mud tire for me is the MasterCraft MXT. Solid tire, decent lifespan, good traction and similar build to a Cooper stt pro.

I would never run retreads on a vehicle that sees any sort of street action.I remember reading about a guy who had treadwrights on a Landcruiser. One blew out on the highway and the truck rolled several times into a field with his family in it. Thankfully they were all safe, but it could have been a much worse situation. I'll spend the couple hundred extra bucks to get good tires. Not that it can't happen with them, but there's less of a chance. If the couple hundred extra bucks are that big of a deal then get smaller tires, or wait for a good sale.

That's happened in a lot of vehicles and with many different manufactures not just treadwright. Search tire blowout.

I said it can happen to any tire, but you've got a higher chance of failure on a retread. I don't like to take chances with tires, even if slim.

I've had them (many years ago) so I can speak first hand experience. The don't balance worth crap, are so loud they will drive you clinically insane, even from the beginning, they ride very rough on a light SUV, and lastly they don't wear evenly even if you try to rotate and balance them frequently. They were awful. I managed to get through about half tread and got rid of them cus they just got louder as the tread wore down. It got to the point to where I couldn't even enjoy music or have a conversation without each of us yelling.

First hand experience is crucial, because there are some decent tires coming out of Asia right now, and it wouldn’t behoove us as a forum to dismiss them all based on geography.

Naturally, Americans want American made product. However, you pay an arm and leg for it most the time. But, I'm a firm believer in 'you get what you pay for'. That's not just the product but also the customer service, warranty, etc..

Obviously not all tire companies make their tires in America. Even some of the best brands are made outside of the states. I'm not biased to a tire company's nationality, more so to how reputable the company is and its reviews. That goes beyond just tires as well.

As for why I bought the Federal Couragia M/T's in the first place... I was a naive broke college kid wanting "cool" offroad tires. Learned my lesson.

Update. After two failures and treadwright replacing them he has been fine with many miles highway, city and offroad. I recently saw treadwright on a discovery tv show and the process was pretty cool to watch.
