2wd 5th gens?

Well this is my first post here so hello everyone. I'm probably going to purchase a used 5th gen in Jan. It will be my wifes ride. It will totally be a poser becuase she wants to lift it and put some bigger tires on it but it will rarely see off road use. I already have a CJ and a z71 lifted that we use to play off road so I don't see the need to pay extra for the 4x4. not to mention i can't seem to find any SR5's 4x4 in GA. only 4x4 i can find are limiteds.

I do have some questions.
1. Are the 4x4 and 2x4 Sr5 suspensions the same?
2. Probably going to do 275s or maybe 285 with small lift on stock SR5 wheels. I will pull a 19ft tahoe boat every now and then with it. Would a spacer lift with a stiffer rear coil be a good idea to get the lift and reduce the rear sag when towing?

Thanks for all the help. and please feel free to post pics of your 2wd if you'd like.

Welcome aboard!

For compensating tow-sag, you may want to look into airbags. Antman has a nice write-up about them and has been very happy with his setup best as I know.

Okki

That must be a southeast thing because I had to drive 2 hrs to get the only sr5 with 4x4 and leather within a 300 mile radius of me.

Yes I've looked a good bit and can't seem to find any 4x4 SR5's near me. But i think we'd be ok with a 2wd. I do like the airbag setup that Antman posted. Thats pretty sweet and it keeps from having a super stiff ride when i'm not towing something.

Don't consider this a personal attack, cuz its just my personal opinion, but to me there is nothing more wasteful or useless than a lifted 2wd vehicle. I hate the sight of them!!!!

runnaz, I'm inclined to agree with you... but to each his own. OP can paint it pink and it would still be a nice ride.

But it does occur to me... the lift may be something more than cosmetic. As many have noted here, the nose dive and handling of SR5 may be improved by a lift.

They look exactly the same so wtf are you talking about? And ground clearance is ground clearance how is it useful on one and not the other?

Well I appreciate your input I guess but are you saying you don't think a lifted 4runner looks better than factory? Because 4wd and 2wd sr5 look identical. As I said I will not be using this as a trail rig its my wife's vehicle.

Could we have the first PreRunner 5th Gen in the works? No better way to prove your offroad skills than to do it with 2WD. Heck, they made a Tacoma PreRunner! I'd hate to be the guy with a 4WD who got left in the mud by a better driver with a 2WD.

nah there is a guy on here that lifted his wife's 2wd 5th gen... cant remember his name something surfer. Looked great but he caught flack from some people
