Sharky's Coupler
So, instead of starting over with a new thread, I'm just going to add the build of version 2.0 to this thread. As I mentioned, the first one I made was just not working out the way I wanted. So, as I often do, I'm starting over. To start it off, here is a list of the players:
2"x2"x.250" square tubing
1.5"x.250" DOM round tubing
3"x3"x.250" square tubing
Poly bushing w/ 2"x.250 DOM sleeve

1"x8" grade 8 bolt
1"x4" grade 8 bolt
(2) 1/4-28 zerks
(Tractor supplies for a sleeve and a collar(I'll give details later)
I put the measurements of the cuts on the first pic, but keep in mind that those numbers were reached with a combination of Chinese blueprinting, a WAG and a little bit of Santeria. My point is, they're not etched in stone.
This is the start of the rotating sleeve that I'm redoing
Hot, fish mouth action! I have a fairly decent notcher that is handy for roll cages.
Chop-chop! This is another tool that makes fabrication fun for the whole family. I love the dry cut saw for the clean, square cuts.
This is what it all looked like before I trimmed and fitted most of the holes you see are for plug welds, one is for a zerk. I'm pretty sure that there is a cheaper option for a pin, in lieu of the bolt, but this is what I could easily get. I think bar stock would be ok, but the bolt is a bit stronger.
At this point, I did a much better job of things, to fix my tightness issues. I turned the pin a bit, with my belt sander and got a nice, even slip fit. I'm going to change up my welding sequence, so I have a chance to hone the sleeve to fit the pin if need be. The bevel on the end of the pin, and on the notched tube, are going to help with penetration (giggity) for the welded joints. You may also notice that I cut a groove in the rotating sleeve for grease flow. Seemed like a good idea, hope it works.
This is as far as I got tonight. I had hoped to get it welded up, but my dog came in the garage and, well, he died. That was some crazy $h:t! I'm not mentioning this to elisit a response. He was old, he had issues and that's life. But, he was a cool little dude and had one hell of a back-story. So, this coupler is in honor of Sharky Shooter. Godspeed lil' buddy!
Thank you guys for the help and nice comments. I'll get the rest posted up ASAP.
