3 CV boots within 1500 miles? Dilemma of what to do..

Hey guys,
So like the title says, 3 freakin inner CV boots within 1500 miles. What I have been doing each time was just using the warranty on them and changing the entire axle (since it was less mess to deal with instead of separating the joint).

Anywho, I'm getting over it. Its only a 3" lift in the front and I'm debating about just rebooting it, but stretching the boot this time, like the boot slide mod just without glue. (I have an idea how to do it, we see if it works if I go this route).

However, the passenger side has been ripped for maybe 400 miles? The drive just ripped, no more than 90 miles (Ripped offroad, and drove home..thats it).

Question is, has those miles been too long of exposure to reboot? Or nah? I've thought about the Porsche 930 boot idea but when researching, no one clearly specifies what year they order off of, plus from what I've read AllPro's boots are the Porsche boots, but marked up ridiculously high....

So am I safe to boot slide mod it?

And separating the joint only consists of that one C-clip to split the shafts correct?

I've had ripped boots for months....you're good for a few miles. I will eventually reboot with longer boots...I've read about the Porshe boots...or just stretching the OEMs.

I had a diff drop installed and one side lasted over 100k. I just replaced the other one that's been torn for who knows how long

try a different brand, i had the same prolem with my napa, went to a kregan brand, i have more then 4k mi on one now

Okay, I'll try Oreilly's ones. Prolly pick um up this weekend.

But how's this for kicks,
I went to Toyota yesterday afternoon to buy reboot kits from them. They no longer bring them in, at all. The guy said they took it off and out of their inventory of things they receive...how fcked up is that..

So i went to the local parts store since it was across the street from Toyota, and got some universal looking fckn boots....I questioned putting them on, and I think I'm gonna return them. Always gotta trust that gut feeling!

Toyota still sells reboot kits. That guy is an idiot. I had mine redone with the Toyota inner + outer kit only a few months ago.

That's what I was thinking. But fck, I didn't want to push the issue...I'm actually gonna try use the oreilly boots, I took a closer and longer look at them, actually looks pretty sturdy.

Oreilly's is a piece of shit.

Returned the boots. Went to a different local owned auto store and got the ben arkly? (spelling and name correction?) CV boots which are OEM spec. Did the boot slide mod with adhesive to those.

What a freakin difference! I gotta get pics up asap on how much fin rubbing this eliminated.

I am estimating I drove about 20k. Yes 20k with a completely seperated boot. I would not recommend it but its the facts. I think the boot lasted about 60k before it split.

So here's the pics as promised (Passenger side slid, drivers side normal) As you can see, the fins at least have a gap, which will make the CV's last a longer period of time due to less friction rub:









If there is enough hype about this, then maybe I'll create a different thread with a writeup.

Idk why people are scared to seperate CV's, its not as messy as you think, especially if your old CV boots tore and blew out majority of the grease haha!
