3 Months in a 4Runner

I've lived in Brooklyn for 10 years...
Took the train every work day into the city (didn't even own a car)

I quit my job.
And I'm selling my apartment.
I just bought this truck.... and I'm making a plan to travel around the US for three months.... I got a rack. Probably an RTT in a few weeks.

Where would you go?... what would you want to see if you had three months (or more) to do it. I don't have a set schedule, but at some point I have to get another job. Do you have a must see list? I was thinking as many national parks as I could... I like to hike, mountain bike, kitesurf, alpine ski... but I also just want to see stuff that this truck makes accessible. I bought the TEP but I'm not going to do anything real technical (not going to get a winch... at least not right away)... if you have a blog or a list of go to spots... i'd love to hear about it.....

Just enjoy the trip, and not the destination. Flip a coin and go where it says! Head/left and tails/right. Just be sure to not flip 4 of either heads or tails in a row :doh:

I can heartily recommend each and every national park and monument in Utah and AZ, you pretty much cannot go wrong. Another couple of mandatory stops should definitely be Yellowstone in WY and Yosemite in CA.

Do you have netflix? There is a series on there that you should watch before you head out- National Parks: America's Best Idea. This will give you a great overview of most of the national parks all over the country and the fascinating history behind them.

As far as wheeling goes, you could easily spend the next 10 years just exploring fire trails around the Southwest. There are so many resources online, its kind of ridiculous.
 
Set yourself up with a GoPro and start a blog. Many more natural places to visit out West IMHO than here in the East.

+1 on Yosemite and Yellowstone. Very nice, and should be in the fall. If you have never seen the Rockies, they are majestic. The I-40 drive makes for nice scenery.

Grand Canyon, then drive through Vegas to see the Hoover Dam. Sedona is nice if you like to fish and hike (lived there for three months).

I also like San Francisco and the Golden Gate as stops to see. Then if you want to see more of the Pacific, take 1 (PCH) down to LA and San Diego.

One quirk for me was stopping in Graceland outside Memphis. Definitely unique.

South Beach Miami, where all the models of New York get into the skimpiest, if not bottoms only, attire. The best candy I have ever seen, ever. If you mind a long drive over water, go to Key West. I have a small house in Marathon.

This has to be the most epic first post. I don't know about everyone else but I wish I could do such a trip.

You might want to consider purchasing a few recovery items if you going off road.
 
Congrats and enjoy your trip!! That sounds absolutely incredible and hope I can do something similar sometime in my life.

East coast guy here so no real suggestions but I know like everyone has said, the national parks out there seem like must see.

Hope you find time to do a blog or at least keep a thread updated with your travels.

Enjoy your trip. I'd like to suggest the White Mountains of NH, Green Mountains of VT as well as the Adirondacks in Upstate NY to start your trip. Out west there is plenty of good stuff. Take in a little bit of what the east coast has to offer too!

It sounds like an awesome plan. I'd head towards Colorado and maybe make my way up to Montana via the Rocky mountains. Then head to Washington state and make my way down the coast.
 
+1 for the blog, or at least keep this thread heavily updated.

Head West

Just head to Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, then down to Utah and Arizona. The Rockies and the Southwest will leave you with awe. See the national parks and enjoy the road trip. I'm definitely jealous
