3 Year Anniversary for the Timmy the Tooman Show

It’s been so cool reading all these comments from people we’ve empowered to do their own automotive repair. I myself have learned a ton from this forum and from Tim. Tim has been nothing but a super generous guy to myself and others we’ve helped Over the years. I never would have thought what we started 3 years ago would turn into something so big for those who love to wrench and especially for those that own 3rd gens.

I am super passionate about these rigs and I too like to help others. This YouTube channel really couldn’t have been done alone. I’ve always wanted to share knowledge and teach out so others could benefit from what I learned from the next person. The very first YouTube video I made was almost 6 years ago about how to clean your MAF. I always like to bring a cheeky side to the videos and that’s my editing style, but ultimately it’s aboit getting the point across and make it clear what needs to be done to get a job done. That video now has 140k views. It’s nothing special but it’s the fact of the matter that I enjoy teaching out. So when Tim and I teamed up over a valve cover gasket job, it was awesome to find someone like minded. Plus it’s not as fun wrenching by yourself.

I value every member on this forum. The ones who ask questions, the members who answer them and the ones who have done write ups etc. this forum has been instrumental in meeting really cool dudes, some of which I’m good friends with now. This forum has allowed me to invite total strangers To my parents house where I hosted my first MOD DAY over 4 years ago. Some of the people that came that have been good friends ever since. There is also one forum member who I really admired and looked up to. [MENTION=53337]SCRunner12[/MENTION] was the very first member I met in San Jose when he helped a guy put on his lift kit. It was so cool that he basically did it for free and the mentality for him was he was paying it forward because when he started 4running, someone did the same for him.

So T4R is basically this community where people want to genuinely help others and you don’t get much of that out in the real world. So again, I want to thank all of you for your kind words and supporting our mission to keep making content for future wrenchers.

I spend a lot of time watching the videos. They have been super helpful. I just wish after 1500 posts I could have contributed more. I do have good advice on rust repair.

I'm liking my little Dewalt gun you recommended. I use it quite a bit. I honestly never expected it to be as powerful as you said it was. It does just fine so I have no complaints. I used it recently to help my friend Garett install a C4 bumper on his 5th Gen.

I promise that shifter bushing video will be made. I'd like to find somebody with a really sloppy shifter though. Mine aren't that bad so I'd like to show a more dramatic improvement for the video.

You remember some of my quotes. I feel honored. I guess I've spewed quite a few Timmy sayings over the last 3 years. My new favorite one is letting people know we don't have a torque value for them so we're going to use the German spec of "Gudentite".

I have to ask if you were ever able to figure out that random PO 171, where y’all replaced both the A/F sensor as well as the rear O2? I think it was where you bought the laptop for Techstream? My brother had been chasing a PO 171 on his wife’s Avalon for months. Turns out that there was a leak at the EVAP switching valve that was only present when hot. He found it using a smoke machine.

We were chasing a P0301 misfire code and we still haven't figured it out yet. I've been waiting to get Greg back over my place to check his timing and do a leak-down test of his #1 cylinder.

I think I've watched pretty much all the videos, got my 4Runner around the time you guys started making videos. I'd be wrenching on it myself either way but I really appreciate that you guys show the part numbers and give the torque specs, even showing the page number you reference in the FSM....I hate wasting time watching other videos where the info is just generic - "use the appropriate sized tool and torque the fastener to spec required" blah blah blah

You guys are amazing for putting together such detailed videos! Thank you! I used several of them from fluid flushes to the center console swap. It was also the videos that actually finally made me join this forum instead of just lurking/reading as a guest.


As far as recommendations.. you haven't done a transfer case output shaft seal replacement yet have you? Mine's leaking and I've just been putting off doing it out of laziness and not having found a good breakdown of what I need to do it.

other then that you guys have been rockin with everything so far! the general maintenance stuff has been the most valuable to me, personal. so thanks again!

You should come over and we'll make a video of replacing your transfer case seal. If it's not a rush, which it doesn't sound like it is, we'll find a day that works for you, me and Sean and we'll getter dun. Send me a PM and I'll give you my cell number.

The first Timmy YouTube video I came across was when I first got the 4Runner, and was ready for a timing belt job. I noticed that the video was some 1.5 hours long, and I thought to myself - "you've got to be kidding me, who has 1.5 hours to watch some stupid video?"

Then I watched the video and became an instant convert. I've never seen other YouTube how-to videos that show meticulously every bolt and nut to be removed, every part that is involved, and every potential "gotcha" during the process. I watched the video on my Toughbook as I was doing the job, and it worked like a charm.

I honestly think that having a community with folks like Tim, Sean, and Jordan, not to mention Keith (wait, I just did ), is one of my favorite parts of having the 4Runner.

Keep up the good work guys!

I agree with all the positive things people have already said before me. Especially the comments about taking time to correct errors or misinformation & discussing more efficient ways of getting the job done. That and the detail you go into is what I appreciate the most and sets your videos apart from the rest. We all make mistakes but it takes someone very confident to go back and re-evaluate your own work to make it better, then video it to share with everyone.

I've watched your rear brake drum video a couple times this week because I noticed slight seepage of brake fluid around the rubber boots on my wheel cylinders when I had the drums off to repaint them last weekend. I was due for a brake shoe change anyway so will be doing that this weekend.
