I notice that. People have to be smart enough to weed out the BS. Plus if people don’t know what they “don’t know” they feel they are experts in everything. One can’t even argue with the likes of them.

I switched to MeWe so far no censorship { a few years ago}. Tim and Sean are not anything close to communist. They are American and just like to make Do It Yourself videos. :D

The good news other platforms gained traction. As if you dig into it some. Lifelog shut down the day that Facebook went online for everyone. Mark Suckabuck didn't invent anything. It was I think a DARPA program to get people to share all their private information for various intelligence gathering. :-(

The topic is slightly off topic but the title shows us this thread is and folks can skip it if they don't want to participate in it. :D

You can't type the 'biotch' part of that chute site. I don't think Timmy needs to be worried about big tech taking him down. I can see this thread going off the rails, though....what i like about this community is although I'm sure there are all kinds of viewpoints here, there is a distinct lack of politics and conspiracy theories. Let's keep it that way!

Big tech censorship, for whatever reason, is not conspiracy, and we have to live with it and find solutions. You have a proof, in the first post of this thread. You don't think he can be ''censored'', yet you are in a post where his videos got deleted. Jeez...

Even if the reason is that doing mechanics can hurt you, for our security, for whatever, I don't care, result is the same.

Once you got that computed in your politically correct brain, leave me the hell alone to simply state that the videos of timmy are valuable and that he/we shall make backups and use whatever services are needed, if ever needed, for the community to access these resources in the future.

Please don't attack each other. Folks can believe as they wish. Its always best to agree to disagree on matters like this.. :) Its been a crazy 2 years and I know lots of lives have been messed with and tempers are short. :(

About once a year I find myself on FB for one reason or another, and I always use a disposable VM for the visit. The last time I checked in on a local 4R group, other than the litany of "OmG just got my baaaaby" posts with an off-angle phone pic of their bone stock 5th gen, I came across one where people were arguing about what the correct lug nut torque spec was. I don't remember a single person actually offering any value in the 80-90 ftlb range, but there were several posts going on about "I always torque mine to 120, cus I'm makin dern sure they ain't coming off!"

Before thinking, I'd typed out a long response about why that was not a good idea. Then I thought better of it, held down the backspace key, and went about my day.

Imo FB is all of the parts of high school that I don't miss, in one inconvenient, difficult-to-avoid site. I'm sure there is good info on there, somewhere, but it's awful as a forum for documenting anything. I'm glad forums aren't dead yet.

Wise man... Indeed.. I started playing in IT in the mid 80s as a kid. :D Computers without hard drives and the 5.25 inch floppy...:jaw:
Though in that time it was mostly playing the games..;-) Those were the days...:D

You can't with most of the groups on FB. As I posted a link in one group that about 98% of all issues with 3rd gens have solutions and threads on this forum. The entire group basically ignored it. :(

Facebook sucks it just does. I miss the glory days of all the forums but the 08 financial crisis, the rise of smart phones and apps changed it for everybody.

Everyone is too lazy to click a few buttons yo navigate a forum. We all would prefer to be spoon fed….. and look at the tmz Feed I guess.

Seriously though, some of the nearest people I’ve ever met in my life I’ve been through various forums.

I’ll continue to be too old for my own good I suppose and fight the change. Forums always have been and always will be better than any kind of click bait Instagram or Facebook feed ever wish they could be. Those apps obviously bring something that the forums don’t, but the level of institutional knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm that forums have, will never be found on Facebook.

You and me both.... though our first computer at home was a "portable". If you want to consider a 60lb suitcase with a 3" green screen "portable". But I had dual 5 1/4, so I didn't have to flip sides on most games (just copy to another floppy for B drive). Dad had a computer with 8" floppies at work, and I remember touring Corp HQ (Farmers Ins.) in California somewhere and their MASSIVE IBM real to real storage system.

But yeah... Zork, Wizzardy, Carmen Sandiego... we even had a local BBS I'd dial into (this was Wyoming in the 80's). I remember getting hooked on usenet about 1991 or so, then found out about email lists/listservs and was involved in those through about 2000 before the dam newfangled forums started crapping up the joint.


As for the current internet, 2 words describe it best "Dumpster fire". There's no barrier to entry. Gone are the days when it was only the people with technical jobs and college kids who were accessing it. It wasn't even all that terrible once AO(hel)L came online as they stayed in their walled garden mostly. I'll take the real downfall as the mass adoption of smartphones.
