30k mile service - dealership

I was recently at a Toyota dealership getting the oil changed in my 2016 and the service manager told me the next service interval (30k miles) is "a big one". I said I thought service at 30k was just air filters and oil but he said they "do brakes and throttle body" and he trailed off implying there was more. WTF?

Nothing in the service manual says anything about cleaning the throttle body or anything else, and my brake pads are still at 8mm. Engine is running great as far as I can tell.

Is there any truth to this? I'm guessing he's just full of shit but I want to make sure I'm not alone. (I was going to just do the air filters myself since it takes about 5 seconds.)

Mind you the below is from a 2015 4R manual but I cannot imagine things are much different.

The less stuff they take apart - the better. Your dealer is trying to sell you service that you don't need. I took my "complimentary service" back to them and got $600 refund because that "free" service is included in your total purchase price. DIY or take it to someone you can trust. GL

[MENTION=130829]meder24[/MENTION] yes that look identical to my 2016 manual. That's why I was confused about the dealership mentioning throttle body as a regular maintenance item (especially at only 30k!). And a brake job when the pads still have more than half of their life left??

This was my last free ToyotaCare visit and I don't think I'll be returning to that dealership.

30k you should probably replace your brake fluid, you can do your diffs if you do harsh driving.

He is trying to upsell. i worked for 2 Toyota dealerships. 1 we did everything by the book when it came to service schedule. the second wanted us to push MAF cleaning, Throttle body, and some engine vac that i still to this day dont understand what they were doing. and i went to school for automotive. it would push the 30k price from the normal $200(which toyota pays if you have ToyotaCare +) to almost $500
