It takes a lot of work to fit 35's
- proper offset wheels
- 3 inch suspension lift
- 1.5 to 2" body lift
- body mount chop and re-weld
- dial in the suspension travel
- then you finally get to trim

I still have a slight rub on my Titan w/ those same tires and a 4" lift. So I'd think there would be a LOT of rub on a 4runner.

Try running a 285/75/17. Just as tall but not so wide. May be a little easier to fit. Still a lot of trimming needed.

Some owners have still needed to chop the body mount. The other issue is that you are limited to Toyo AT / MT or Nitto Terra Grapplers

It's the same result, that's a lot of meat to fit under a 4runner. You will rub.

I'm running 275/70r17 currently and I have a 3 inch lift and a bit of trimming and some rub if I do a hard turn, but no real issues.
I'm looking at upgrading my suspension and doing a bodylift in order to run 35s of whatever variant. Also probably going to be more trimming or hitting things with a hammer to get things to fit.

Which Icons did you end up with? (SKUs if you please), and for how much?
Ideally I'd end up with 58745C-700 in the front, and 57810CP and 52800 in the back but I'm not really having any luck searching for used ones...
Also, in case you know, how exactly does one determine if some random king or fox or whatever coilovers will or will not work without the vendor listing a SKU? (I ask as SoCal has many suspension items on craigslist, but so far, none with a SKU).

The craigslist ads should list what vehicle they go to.
I got mine for more than 50% off from a member on here who had them installed on his GX470. No idea what part number. Icon has different part numbers for their FJ and 4Runner suspension but they are identical parts. They told me the valving on their Tacoma coilovers were slightly different than the 4Runner ones but not enough to notice. I'd guess there are different part numbers out there for tiny valving changes, build differences, or inventory tracking, but any coilover listed for 07'-09' FJ's, 03'-09' 4Runners, or 2nd gen Tacoma's will work fine for our 4Runners.

Examples:
FOX shocks coilovers 12" x 2.5" remote bypass
Fox 2.5 coilovers
King Coilovers 2.5"x8"
16 inch king coilovers
Etc.
I still haven't figured out what length I'm looking for though, or how to verify that connectors top and bottom are what I need. Know where I can read up on that?
Good deal. And yeah, I've talked with Icon. The 58735 and 58745 are the Tacoma and 4runner ones, just valved differently.
The big thing for me is that going from say the 58645 (no external reservoir) to the 58745C costs $845 a pair. At black friday prices (20% off), something like the 58745C-700 should cost just under $1500, so I'd need to buy the 58645 for ~$650 to break even.
Of course, black friday prices are never guaranteed...

Most the coilovers you linked to seem to be for non-vehicle specific applications. For people building tube buggies or trophy trucks. You'll need one with a top hat that mounts to the eyelet with the correct bolt spacing for our truck's upper shock mount. The lower eyelet sizes will probably be different on these generic shocks so you will need to order spacers from the manufacturer if you're lucky enough they even make them. Not to mention the vehicle specific shocks are valved to our trucks (not for a 2000lb mud buggy or 100mph desert truck with 37's) and have the exact correct extended and compressed lengths to match our bumpstops/ CV limits. Not worth the headache to try and get those to fit.
You should probably search using "Toyota coilover" or similar to narrow down the results. Anything that has the length listed, like 8", 10", 12" are non-vehicle specific, and like I said, pretty much impossible to get to work.

That's what I was afraid of.
Anything that has said what vehicle it is for is at best ~20-30% off new, which for a used suspension part is not enticing to me in any way. Also, will cost me more in the long run than just paying for the C-700 variant up front to begin with.
